Okay to run a M240 without bottom plate, in a half case?

Recently acquired mint M240, and shortly after a LNIB Ever Ready Case in cognac. I also bought another half case that has a magnetic door on the bottom to access the battery compartment. Is there any problem keeping the camera in a case like that, with the bottom late left off? The case has a pretty solid base with what looks like maybe an 1/8” particle board material sandwiched between felt, and attached at the tripod mount… I prefer the darker leather of the second case.

I don't see any reason why you need a bottom plate to use a leica. It's such a nuisance. it's as annoying as not bringing a SD card, as you will constantly forget to put the bottom plate on after charging the battery.

No problem in keeping it in a case like that.

I have never forgotten to put the base plate on any Leica, to be honest. Leica have moved away from that system with the M11, though.

It is a shame that M11 no longer has the bottom plate, but it's also very annoying to constantly take off and put on the bottom plate. The most mainful part is that you cannot even shoot without a bottom plate.

How often to you actually have to take the base plate off an M240? Once a day, when you’ve finished shooting?

Basically you buy a bottom plate from Leica. The camera is a free accessory.

I do that with my M-D. No problem whatsoever and much more convenient than using a bottom plate.

Wait. Wait! Oh, I get it this is a joke thread. You guys really had me going with this “the Leica doesn’t need a base plate”. Good stuff. When I see the thread that says, “Leica lens is a bit of a nuisance. It’s heavy and bumps into things. Do I really need it?” I’ll be in on the joke at that point. Gosh, you had me going for a while.
