Hey ,

I just saw this and had to share it….

https://leicarumors.com/2024/01/07/new-really-right-stuff-custom-l-plate-with-grip-for-leica-q3-cameras.aspx/

if this would be included in a half case , it would be perfect.

I wonder why Leica is not interested in making the best additional tools ….

the wireless handgrip is ok , but for every sd card > change

every battery (if you need energy) > change (screw)

and worst of all > they anticipated a arca  Swiss mount > but no …. Does not fit and you need another screw ….

so really right stuff , pls keep on making cool stuff …

cheers

Yes , but with the minimalism , you need to add something minimal to put it on a tripod.

The minimalism grip can do it. in case you don’t know it yet. It takes much fewer steps to screw than if screw to the quick release. But this point is splitting the hair.

Hey Joy,

I own the Leica handgrip.
And it’s more than about screwing.
its, sliding and maybe vertical for panorama.
And then it’s cold 🥶 and it’s dark …

it’s also about safety and compatibility.

And my point was: how can we make the grip better.

that does not exclude simplicity.

I feel like if the I-part of the L-plate would be removable, this would be perfect. It looks a bit obtrusive like it is and personally prefer the look of the IDS handgrip with Arca Plate. I don’t shoot that much from a tripod these days especially with the Q but all my other cameras have RRS L-plates. They are good quality and if this fits your needs, I wouldn’t hesitate

I have a couple of the grips that are out there, but in the end, I had to go with the Leica charging grip.  Not for the wireless charging as might be expected, but because it is the ONLY one out there that will take the finger loop attachment, which I find to be the best add on for the Q series cameras.  A drop of lock tight, or thread locker, and you will NOT loose your grip.

I can't figure out why other camera brands don't have something like it.

Hi Mike,

maybe, maybe the fingerloop.

others use a strap.

some need arcar  Swiss.

But the Arcar Swiss would not prevent you of using a loop would it?

I have many questions to the engineering of this handgrip.

But you are right the hand loop is a good idea.
Makes it more stable when I have to change the sd card or the battery, which I love to do while I am taking to an inexperienced model.
Just kidding.

Never a problem to me. I can see your selling point is the vertical tripod mount. While it is very useful and sometimes essential (like Sx or SLx), it is just totally different when using M or Q. Try simply turn the ball head 90degree. If you still have problem, let us know which ball head you are using.

Better yet, shoot Qx or Mx without tripod.

It looks like something to get in the way when I am manual focusing -- I hold a camera old-style: flat on the left palm and index + thumb to focus.
It looks like that would be uncomfortable for the base of the thumb... looks...  🙂
But I have hade people say Leicas in general look uncomfortable to hold. 😉
