Never had focusing difficulty with my Summicron 75/2. I had back focus issues with my Elmarit 90/2.8 v2 a dozen years ago but it just needed to be calibrated for digital. It might be that your copies needed some calibration too, although the 75/2 was designed for digital if i remember well.

I had a copy of this lens,
Fabulous when in focus, but I've encountered a lot of random focusing errors with both the M and the SL. I've always been in doubt as to whether I was at fault or whether the optics were at fault.
I'd love to get a new one, but I wonder if the summicron is a reliable lens to use, or is it prone to mechanical problems?
I would like to add that I have an Elmarit m 90 with which I have never had any difficulty focusing.
Thank you for your feedback.

I had some difficulties with the Elmarit- M 90mm on my new M8 long time ago so Leica callibrated the lens and applied six bit on it. ( didn’t cost me a lot ). Then it was ok.
With the 75 summicron there were issues. I tried three lenses for a few weeks, all second hand, but they were not in focus. I don’t know why . But still i’m interested a 75mm summicron. Maybe a fourth one? After seeing this thread it’s on my mind.

Never had an issue. Used it on my digital and film M with perfect focus.

I would even extend LocalHero1953's explanation to landscape photography. The main usage of my 75 APO is for landscape photography, like this in northern Norway:

An incredibly sharp lens! Just wonderful, worth every penny!

I took this image today on the Furka Pass, Switzerland. APO Summicron M 75mm at f/4, Leica M11-P.

This Pass is connecting the Swiss Cantons Valais and Uri.

The mountains are in beautiful colours, and the brooks (also named creeks?) are in bright silver, after intensive rain since yesterday.

Just received this lens today, bought new. Came in the brown eco friendly box. Mfr June 2025. I took an expensive gamble knowing that previous copies had issues with focusing and that it might head off to NJ as soon as I tested it.

M10R (CLA'ed Leica NJ): front focused, quite badly
M11 GBP (no CLA): front focused, but not as bad as above
M11 100 Year edition (2025): spot on, perfect, effortless focusing accuracy

This lens is unforgiving for sure and a slight turn of the focusing ring is all it takes to make an error. As to which body calibration is factory standard is up for debate. I believe Leica NJ CLA intentionally calibrates bodies to be slightly front focused to address focus shift inherent to all lenses. Thankfully the 100 year edition happens to be my user body right now. So I will be keeping this lens!
