M3 lens mount issue

Hello guys,

I have an issue with my M3. When I try to mount certain M-mount 50mm lenses, it engages the 50mm and 135mm frame lines both at the same time. This only happens with a TTArtisan 50mm F1.4 I bought. When the lens clicks securely into place, it will engage the 50mm and a faint 135mm frame lines. If I twist it a bit clockwise, then it engages the 50mm and clear 135mm frame lines. I only have this issue because I tried my other lens(Minolta 90mm F4), and the frame line is okay. It clicks securely into place and engages 90mm frame lines all the way. 

Could this be the TTArtisan lens issue? How do I resolve it

There is a small lever in the bayonet mount which engages one of the mount tabs on the lens and this then selects the appropriate frameline. If these are out of tolerance slightly with respect to each other, then you can see this kind of behaviour. A service technician can adjust the lever, if it is the issue. If it is the lens tab mount that is the issue, it may be fixable, or it may require replacement.

Thanks for the tip, it could be the lens as the camera just had a CLA not too long ago I think

I had an M2 fully overhauled by Wetzlar not long ago.  When I got it back the camera pulled up two frame lines when I mounted my 50mm Summicron.  In addition, I had to fiddle a bit with the lens to get it mounted properly.  There were no issues mounting the lens on my other M cameras.  The camera went back to Germany and when it returned a few months later it was fixed.  So just because your camera recently had a CLA doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't the root of the problem.

I would suspect the TTArtisan bajonet mount. If it is slightly too short, it will sort of begin to bring up the 135mm frames. The 50mm is always engaged in the M3, so it can easily bring up both 135 and 50 together when the bajonet is wrong.

If the TTArtisan is new, I would send it back and ask for a replacement.

The M3 always shows the 50mm frames! When you attach a 90 or 135mm the respective frames are shown as well, but the 50mm is always there.

Sorry, I misread the original posting that the frames for 50 mm showed when a 135mm lens was attached... Silly me.

If you attach a 50mm lens, press the button to release the lens and turn it clockwise (seen from the camera's rear) the frames for 90mm should appear. If you turn it counter-clockwise you'll see the frames for 135mm (as an addition to the 50mm frames).

So it looks as if your 50mm lens rested at the "counter clockwise position". Did you hear the "click" when you attached your lens? It should be quite obvious with an M3. If it didn't click, your lens is not completely fastened to the camera. This is dangerous as the lens might fall off suddenly.

I'll try the way you said, thanks.

As for the lens, I didn't hear a click sound, but when I try to twist it, I can feel it's been secured. Then faint 135 frame line starts to display.

But like I said, if I twist it clockwise further, it will move a little bit, then the clear 135 frame line shows.

The same problem I had with 7artisan 50/1.1. It's a quality issue of these cheap lenses.
