sminteer Posted December 23, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Saw a rumor last year that Leica might release a 2.0 teleconverter for L-mount, any news on this?
Advertisement Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Hi sminteer, Take a look here 2.0x Teleconverter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stuart Richardson Posted December 23, 2023 Share #2 Posted December 23, 2023 (edited) I don't think this is likely, unless it is designed to specifically to work with the 100-400mm zoom (Designed by Sigma). Leica seems to have abandoned tele-converters because of the reduction in image quality. Peter Karbe seems to think that with higher resolution cameras it is better just to crop (see the design of the Q series). I think this is a shame, as their APO Extenders in the R system worked very well, and even if there is a hit on resolution, you do not diminish tonality nor increase the degree of noise, which you do when cropping in. It could just be that, or it could be that modern lens designs are more complicated (with floating elements etc) that do not play well with teleconverters. I think if they were still doing them, we would have seen one for the S system, as that was a system that desperately could have used one, since the longest lens was a roughly 150mm equivalent. dg4mgr Posted December 23, 2023 Share #3 Posted December 23, 2023 Earlier this year, the Leica Extender L 1.4x for the 100-400mm Zoom was released. I don't expect a 2.0x to come.
