I've tried searching already so don't crucify me.  :)

My M11 shows battery percentage left on the rear display.  Why doesnt it show up on my M11m display?  Is it a firmware?

Also, why doesn't the SL2 or SL2s have this?  It's really useful, IMHO.

I find it really useful, too. It is one of the few things I dislike about the SL2-S.

I have no idea about the M11s. But for the SL2/2-S I suspect it is not fixable in firmware - I think the info is actually recorded in the battery, not the camera, so if the battery doesn't have the circuitry there is nowhere to get the data to display. That shouldn't apply to the M11 / M11 Mono if they use the same battery.

Well, I must have been dozing because my M11m DOES show battery percentage.  So the M11s show it but the SL2 and SL2s doesn't.  Why is that?  Is it because there's no room on the display?

Nope - different batteries. All we get on the SLs is the monumentally random thermometer bar. I imagine the Qs would be the same, since I think they use the same battery as the SL2/2-S - can any Q users confirm?

John

Confirm 🙂

If you connect the SL2 to the Fotos app, you can see the battery percent displayed at the top left of the app.

Yes, I saw that too.  I'm just surprised that Leica didn't put it on the rear camera display; it's really useful.

Perhaps if enough of us submit a request through the Feature Request service on the Fotos app, we might get lucky and Leica can include in the next firmware update. Or at a minimum Leica might respond if this is even possible or not.

Except I don't think it is a real percentage. From my limited experience with Fotos it will just display it in 25% chunks, corresponding to the full - OK - low - hungry - dead display in the camera. So it isn't much more helpful.

(Edit - just to be clear, I am talking here about the SL2/2-S - I have no experience with the M11M so I don't know how it interacts with Fotos)

There are two problems with this display, whether by the camera or in Fotos. One is that it lacks precision - although you may reasonably argue that the 25% steps are good enough for general use. The other, which is much more serious, is that it is sometimes wildly inaccurate. You can turn the camera on and it will show three quarters or even full, then within a few shots it is blinking orange and saying "Feed me now". The more sophisticated system used in the Ms does not suffer from this nearly as much, in my experience. I think this is because the M batteries are measuring the charge levels themselves whereas the SL batteries do not have this capability and the camera just makes a guess.
