An excellent day out with good company. Thanks for organising it, farnz.

I even managed to meet another Leica M-D owner today, and given the small number of these cameras thought to have been produced, the odds against two M-D owners meeting up must be very small, and even smaller given that we both had progressed from an M8.2 to an M-9P, and than an M-D...

It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance, roydonian, and yes indeed; an interesting 'parallel-progression'!

Philip.

Pippy was surprised yesterday when I said that I'd once got my grubby little paws on the Ur-Leica. Here's the pic of that never-to-be-forgotten event some quarter of a century ago.

Lucky man. I'm not sure where this is now hidden. The item in the hallway of the main HQ building is a replica. Jim Lager said that the last time he saw the camera it was on a trolley being wheeled by a member of staff at Wetzlar many years ago. Bill Rosauer (derleicaman) has a story of the Ur-Leica being used for teaching students. The last time it was 'out' was probably for this photo for the 2018 book Museum Leica by Lars Netopil. It looks the same as it did 20 years earlier.

Given that 0 Series No 5 sold for 14.4 million Euros, this must have an absolutely huge value today.

Lovely memory and explains your Avatar! Was this taken in Solms with the 'family tree' in the background?

I trust that if you have tested positive the infection is truly minor and you will be back in good health ASAP.

Farnz and I both developed the same symptoms on the same day, which makes me think that we both received the viral equivalent of the Treasure Island 'Black Spot' on the same day.  Farnz recovered in two days - it took me 12 days. But that may be the result of our respective ages - I become 81 in a few days time...

Sorry to hear of your illness, roydonian, but I trust that you are fully hale and hearty once more? If I bump into Blind Pugh (or, alternatively, were he to bump into me) I will have 'Words'....

As it happens due to fairly important 'Family Stuff' I do still have to test for Covid on a very regular basis and, FWIW, can say categorically that my latest 'positive' bout was recorded as starting in early September (bloody Edinburgh!) but had cleared by the middle of the month.

This situation with Pete and yourself, however, does highlight that we all must still be vigilant because COVID 19 has NOT gone away; not by any stretch of the imagination.

I agree that Covid is still lurking but for the avoidance of doubt I tested for Covid and my test was negative.  (Personally I'm grateful to daily Vitamin D supplements for keeping my immune system healthy and my thanks to the late Robert Parker for his good advice about taking Vitamin D. 🙂)

Vitamins B, C and D are particularly good for pre-emptive health care.

There is a lot of Covid around at the moment and the infection in different people is either mild (a case of the sniffles for a few days) or extreme (lasting weeks).
