wolan Posted December 14, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 14, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, the last week end I have been shooting a lot of long-exposure pictures with my M11m + Leica hand grip. The Arca-swiss compatible hand grip makes it very easy to put and remove the camera from the tripod. However, I am really missing an L-bracket when it comes to vertical shots. What solution do you recommend? Is there an L-bracket which I can put on top of the Leica hand grip and easily remove when I am done with the long-exposure work? Thanks

hirohhhh Posted December 15, 2023 Share #3 Posted December 15, 2023 +1 for the RRS L-bracket. I've had them for both the SL and SL2 for many years. They are quite expensive for what they do, but the build quality is superb.

Chris_Jenks Posted December 16, 2023 Share #5 Posted December 16, 2023 I’ve always had L-Brackets on my Nikons and Fujis but feel one would spoil the aesthetic appeal of the M11, so my solution (while shooting the Zürich Christmas markets last evening BTW) was to turn my tripod ball-head 90 degrees. Not quite the functionality of a l-bracket but it worked pretty well and good enough for me.

The main reason I use L-brackets on my SL is for shooting vertically or upside-down on a tripod. When I shot studio portraits, keeping the heavy camera steady on a tripod in a vertical position for an hour or so was challenging. Over time, it would slightly drop, but that issue was resolved when I got my first L-bracket. Otherwise, if the camera is positioned horizontally, there's no need for an L-bracket. Some might argue it adds extra protection, but I don't find that necessary.
wolan Posted December 16, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted December 16, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here is what I came up with by using an Arca-Shop Mini-L-Bracket Not elegant, but it solves the problem. Thanks. Welcome, dear visitor! I do long exposure photography quite often (infra red) and I’ve never had a problem with the ball head slipping down but maybe my exposures aren’t long enough - usually 2 mins or less. If you can’t find an l-bracket you like, could you adjust the length of two of the tripod legs so that having the ball head fully rotated gave you the view you wanted with no chance of slippage? Bit of a rubbish work around though.

Spindrift Posted December 24, 2023 Share #17 Posted December 24, 2023 Another vote for the RRS L mount. You’ll need to keep the allen screw handy for mounting/unmounting but it still feels good in the hand and even adds a little grip.
SvenT77 Posted April 29, 2024 Share #18 Posted April 29, 2024 Hi, i bought an universal L Bracket vom Selens last week for my m11 and received it on Saturday. Works like a charm and costed me less than 17 Euro. I am completely satisfied, especially concerning the pricepoint. here is the link to the german Amazon store: https://www.amazon.de/Selens-Schnellspannhalterung-Plattenhalter-Universelle-Kamerahalterung/dp/B09MFKRS4X/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&crid=29L9OKF7SGVHN&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mzX5nZ-5Yh3IwHCqEvFppG26wG6L0wyqX74SnSNzFjSUN3EcYGPk7GZAVLnak7bUx9yuBdE3QTwxkA3askOzm8uo_kLxzhq_m7pFROAa_qvGkP9DVT8zSAZwpreCXt5NhcMpUhNjUaMiFGBX_H3eJgZpAs68lQj9ZBkRBeO77aGBzLzB1XkNiKSHNx_SmyX--SVV3jqOxrDwBMBYwymIMRTcfcipMlPVT-fKyR3vrBg.igGaDXQyE5-iUdKFQVP6Dk04U91X6obVTrioCN1IFyQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=Selens+l+Winkel&qid=1714382279&sprefix=selens+l+winkel%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-2

Thanks Somewhat of a unique solution, but since you already have the Leica Hand Grip with the Arca-swiss in combination with the Peak Design Tripod. The head on this tripod rotates for vertical shots. In a previous post when someone asked about which tripod people recommend for the M11, I recommended the Peak Design for the following reasons, but now I can add the idea of doing vertical shots without an "L-Bracket". Peak Design Carbon Fiber without a question. Lightweight but also Sturdy Excellent compact design and great looking as well. Packs down to the diameter of a water bottle. Mounting bracket works well with Leica M handgrip/L bracket. Secure but yet very easy mounting and releasing of camera Unique but extremely easy adjustments for height, level, angle, etc. Works well with other Peak Design bags/accessories for carrying it Compatible with the peak design anchors and straps for another optional carry method Includes mounting bracket for mobile devise And now * Allows for vertical shots with M11 Leica Hand Grip Expensive but hands down the best tripod I have used and perfect for the M. davflys Posted April 29, 2024 Share #20 Posted April 29, 2024 For your M11m with the Leica hand grip, you might want to check out the Really Right Stuff L-Bracket. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but the build quality is excellent and it should fit your needs perfectly for long-exposure photography.
