I bought the Original Q3 half case when others weren't available.  It has a few drawbacks that eventually led to my abandoning it to a Lim.  Among the issues are, 1: no access to the ports, 2: no access to the memory card, and 3..... if not secured properly causes a scratch/rub spot on the bottom of your "jewel" cam.  May not be an issue for you but it is for some.

The Lim case allows access, has a firm attachment to the cam, and incorporates an Arca-Swiss bottom if you want to use a tripod.  There are others but the Lim case is quite good.

Take a careful look at it before buying. Some love it and others do not. (Referring to the Lim, not the Leica case.)

One thing I failed to mention..... and why I am responding to your post.... is the SD card is not that easy to remove with the Lim case on....unless you have extremely skinny fingers.  OTOH, the incorporated magnetic screwdriver on the bottom is a really nice touch should you want to remove the case.

I tried to take pictures so you can see how the sd card can come out of its slot. I have fingers that are neither particularly large nor particularly thin. It's a bit tight to get the card out but it's possible without much difficulty (I do it every time I want to unload the photos).

I have the same problem with the JJC grip. I can only remove the card by using my fingernail, as my fingers are too large.

I tried to take the card out in the exact orientation as you but still failed.  Your fingers appear more slender than mine and I am not particularly overweight.

Thanks for the replies, especially about the LIM case for the Q3. Have decided to go with the Leica made Q3 half case (my dealer is giving me a great deal when I purchase the Q3).

I really liked the Leica made Q2 half case and anyways its a step up from that as it will allow me to attach a tripod without moving the HC as I had to do with my Q2.

Also, not being able to remove the SD card with the Leica HC is no big deal as I would rarely fill up a card within a shoot (no video, big cards) and since I will never shoot video the side ports are of no interest to me.

Will report once I get it!

Thanks,

Nick
