James6714 Posted December 7, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, The LED light in my M10-D OVF is getting “dim”, it is getter harder to see. Does anyone here have this issue? Please share your inputs. Thanks. I will send it over to NJ for repair next year. James,

mort linder Posted December 8, 2023 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2023 i am interested in seeing a reply to this problem . i have noticed that the LED lines change when moving the camera around an image area . counter intuitively , they dim in darker areas and brighten in brighter areas . this did not happen with the m240 . in the menu under custom control there is LED enable and disenable . it seems with enable , the lines stay brighter . James6714 Posted December 8, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted December 8, 2023 My case is not the frame line, but the read out in LED, such as <, >, O, shutter speed. James

The M-240 framelines were lit with natural light. Now they are lit with an LED.

For me, that is not counterintuitive. The lines - well, the LED that back-lights the lines - is programmed to match and balance the brightness of the lines with the brightness of the scenery. So that one doesn't overpower the other. Bright scene = bright lines - so that the glare from the scene doesn't overpower the lines. Darker scene = darker lines - so that the glare from the lines doesn't overpower the subject. The little round "scene brightness detector" on the camera front, just above the red Leica logo and in front of the accessory shoe, controls how bright the framelines and metering LED are (as well as being used to estimate how much the lens is stopped down, for EXIF metadata).

adan Posted December 12, 2023 Share #9 Posted December 12, 2023 That is for the external red LED on the camera back (below the MENU button), that flickers to show read/writes and other camera CPU activity. I guess it allows one to be more "discreet" when shooting in dark places (never worried about it myself).
