Probably not relevant here, but I was under the impression that the Leica colour filters for monochrome work were made in Japan—forgot the manufacturer…

I have B+W for my serious filters (colour, protection, polarising). I like the brass construction…

Yes, Leica will buy from other suppliers when it is economically interesting. The UV /IR cut filters most likely came from Marumi.

Thanks. My filter will be up for replacement at one time or another, because I frequently use the camera in rainy and windy weather and the filter catches a lot of grime over time. I think my next filter will be a B+W protective filter, almost all my ND filters are from B+W. I like the brass rings of B+W, they tend to come off easier than aluminium-ringed filters.

I carry my filters in a stack with end-caps and you can really feel the difference in weight of the brass ones!

I still take a filter wrench with me for the aluminium ones though.

Bottom line: which polarizer is a good choice for the Q3 43? After reading this thread I have questions.

 

Is it better to get aluminum or brass? I suspect that brass's durability might be easier to not seize up and be easier to use?

 

If I use it with the Leica circular lens hood,19657, can I rotate the filter + hood at the same time (so I dont have to reach behind the hood to rotate the filter, as would be the case with the Haoge  square hood that also allows macro + filter use). That seems faster and easier, yes?

 

What other features are important: thin etc. Or is vignetting not a problem so thinness not a problem?

 

Which ones are you using after considering all these issues?

Aluminium rings can bind and be very hard to remove.

Quality Linear polarizers are supposed to have less impact on color than CPLs.  I use a full set of Maven magnetic filters on my SL3 and really like them.  I just ordered their set with a linear polarizer for the Q3 43 (Maven did a custom set for me since their standard 49mm set comes with a CPL and I wanted the LPL).  They’re great to work with.
