Hello Josh, there are various retail outlets that would sell used Leica gear. Where I am in Perth there is a quarterly Photo Fair held at the South Perth Community Centre. One books a sellers table or pays $5 to enter as buyer.

I dont know about other states in Australia. I do know there is a very strong market for Leica gear. Many professional people such as doctors and dentists are always looking for Leica gear. I know two oncologists that are quite keen to purchase cameras and lenses. Like anyone they are looking for good deals. There are also groups of photographers who meet privately but not an advertised or known officially in Perth. I think it's a matter of placing an advert somewhere Josh. It's better to sell locally and work with safer payment options.

Hello Josh.

There is a private dealer in Sydney you goes by the name Peter Rambo. He is well respected as a trusted and honest buyer and seller of high end cameras and lenses. While I have yet to sell/buy with him I have spoken to him several times. If you search gumtree and use the filter Leica and the location Monterey (a suburb in southern Sydney) you will come across a number of advertisements. If you open them you will see his mobile number. I have found it better to ring than message.

Regards,

John

If you search gumtree

The person you name may be the most honourable and trustworthy person in human history, but anything that takes place via "Gumtree" deserves a thumbs down x1000.

People think eBay is bad, Gumtree is unbelievably worse:

In the past I have sold my Leica/ Hasselblad gear to overseas merchants who specialise in this and have reputations to maintain.

Leica rumours had a topic on this just the other day:

If you read my post again you’ll see that you phone him. I did not say the deal was done through gumtree. If you read his posts you will see the only way to deal with him is face to face. A bit hasty on your part me thinks.

So much for trying to assist.

Thanks Ken.
Yes, my hope is to sell locally and in person.
Cheers,

Josh.

Yes, I have noticed the buyer / seller in Monterey over the years. I'll look into this further.

I was kind of hoping to be able to reach a buyer directly, although this might not be possible. Maybe the market is not as strong as I would have hoped ?

I guess my question has been answered. Just not in the way I had hoped 🙂

There does not seem to be an established place for buyers and sellers of Leica gear in Australia. This was my initial finding as well, but I was hoping I was just missing something. Seems a missed opportunity (for both parties) Maybe a regional Classifieds section right here would be worthwhile, but doesn't seem to exist.

I appreciate the help and advice Ken, Jaapv, JonQ and AZN.

Thanks again,

Josh.

I've bought from and sold to Peter (Rambo) a few times and can recommend him.

I have personally bought and sold stuff through FB marketplace and eBay, I'd say marketplace is worth a shot as it's free to list and there's no fees upon sale.

Thanks pwr. Sounds like Peter is "The guy"
Appreciate the info.

Camera Lane in Spotswood, Melbourne as well as Camera Exchange in Box Hill. Maybe not the in person transaction you're looking for, but they are very reliable. I've been visiting them for years. Dealers provide security that a private sale would not. I think both Camex and Camera Lane sell on commission, too. Last time I was at Camera Lane, they were taking delivery of a D850 body and lenses package someone had sent in for sale.
