colint544 Posted February 2, 2024 Share #41 Posted February 2, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Considering I only use my M9 Monochrom for personal work, I was recently surprised to see the shutter count has gone over 50K actuations. Bought it new in August 2012, corrosion-proof sensor fitted in 2016, twice dropped onto the pavement, used in all weather conditions. It just keeps on going. Never lets me down. I'm hoping my M11 holds up just as admirably. Welcome, dear visitor! kivis Posted February 2, 2024 Share #42 Posted February 2, 2024 Never had a problem since 1974 (a few small ones). Newest possible glitch; I carry a 3 lens kit (35, 50 and 90). I no longer bring any caps, front or rear, for quick swapping. Am I asking for trouble? It makes swapping so much quicker.
Topsy Posted February 6 Share #43 Posted February 6 By way of an update on my M9 with the shutter re-cock issue in cold weather. I needed a sensor clean on my D-Lux (typ 109) so I contacete Leica Mayfair who said they no longer service the Typ 109 (but do the D-Lux 7 onwards) but they gave me the details of a guy who used to work for them and now does the older digital stuff himself (David Slater, Camera Focus (Camera Repairs), david@camera-focus.co.uk) who did an excellent job for me in less than a week. Anyway whilst talking to him I mentioned my M9 issue and asked if he did repairs on M9s, initially he said Leica still do but said if I wanted a quicker turnaround he would do it for me. Long story short I sent him my poorly M9 and he looked it over and gave me a quote to service and sort out the shutter (if needed) so I sent it off to him. He said he would be able to get the shutter working better as it had clogged lubricant but was ubsure if he could get it 100%, that said if not he did have a new shutter (his last one) that he had bought from Leica when he worked for them and could fit that if necessary. I said if in any doubt fit the new one (which is what he did in the end). So here I am now just waiting for it to be returned in the post (due to arrive tomorrow) with a new shutter and complete service. Should last me a while now. 🙂

It was cold (around 3 deg) and when I took a shot the camera really struggled to re-cock the shutter it sounde like a motordrive whirring away, to stop it I had to remove the battery. This happened four or 5 times before I stopped using it (I did try a fresh battery but no change). The shots I took were all ok but it put me in a mood for the rest of the walk. When I got home I tried it again but just the same, however, after a couple of hours in the warm of the house it started to work fine again so I put it out in the cold again afr an hour and it still worked so I put it in the fridge (in a sealed bag) for an hour and then the problem returned. Since then it has worked fine but I haven't had it out in the cold since and I am now not confident in it for the colder weather so I found (thanks to @M9reno) a pristine condition M9-P which I now have so I am back up to 3 bodies for field trips.
