Hi, I have an uncoded lens. After upgrading to Leica M11 Firmware V 2.0.1, the shutter turns off and on when any move or shake while walking. If I flip the camera, the shutter closes and then opens, and then changes to Uncoded lens, so I have to choose OFF, but it repeats that after any flipping or shaking of the body.

Does the lens sit firmly on the bayonet or does it move a little? Is the sensor for lens recognition completely covered? This sensor is very sensitive. It only signals to the camera that a lens is attached when no light falls on it. You can test this by covering it with a slowly approaching finger.

I have just found the same issue. I’m using an uncoded lens while I’m currently travelling and it’s just closed the shutter and won’t open.. so no light meter.
I don’t have any other lenses with me so can’t test this.
so sounds like a firmware thing.
have you found a fix?

No Problems with a Summicron 50 Rigid, Summaron 28 Screwmount (with M-Adapter) and a Voigtlander 10mm 5.6.

Maybe there’s just a couple of use that are a little unlucky with it.
I’ve also found my M11 freezing today. Not good at all. Hopefully Leica role out a fix quickly.

Had the same issue and switched the M adaptor to a newer version. No issue since then with my Summar 5 cm

Left side old - middle / right side new one

Even though this thread is in the German section of the Forum I continue in English:

Did you manipulate the lens? Usually it needs an adapter with spare out, otherwise you can't focus it to infinity. Same with the Elmars in 5 and 3.5cm and the 2.8cm Hektor.

The adapters with spare out don't cover the sensor for lens detection and then the shutter will close.

Well, the new firmware closes the shutter, when the camera "thinks" there is no lens attached, may be because of the adapter with spareout or any other reason which lets the slightest light hit the sensor for lens detection.

They should at least make sure that when you switch lens detection off, the shutter keeps open as long as the camera is switched on. It's like this with the older digital models which have LiveView.

Though I fear they have attached other functions as well to the lens detection and that's the reason it stays active even if you switch it off. I think that's a faulty design. Lens detection was originally introduced just for electronic lens correction. Now they added mechanical functions to it which causes the problems.

You´re right about the Summaron. Sorry

during my quick test, i didn't notice that the shutter is closed with the summaron docked.

Taking pictures with it is no problem, similar  the M10.

non coded Lenses without M-adapter do not cause any problems for me and work with the shutter open.

If my theory is true that switching lens detection completely off is not possible for the M11 as this would disturb other functions of the camera, a new adapter might be the solution.

The cutout of traditional adapters to be used with little screw-mount lenses like the 28mm Summaron or Hektor or 35 and 50mm Elmars is very long. It is really only needed shortly before the infinity position which is approx at the 7 o'clock position. The sensor for lens detection which is approx at the 5 o'clock position might still be covered.

I have heard of Rayqual adapters which are different, though I also read that they don't work properly with the M11.

unfortunately correct,

then i probably need an external light meter for the summaron because of the new firmware

I posted this in the international M11 firmware V 2.0.1 discussion earlier this week...

I wrote to Leica last week regarding the rather thoughtless implementation of the new shutter closing feature on lens-off condition. I got this reply, so I'm guessing enough people complained about it 😆

"...we are aware of the lens recognition issue, and it will be addressed in a firmware update"
