andybarton Posted October 15, 2023 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) After a very good weekend here in Dubrovnik, the location for next year’s Challenge was decided at the dinner last night. The One Challenge 2024 will be held in Nice, France on Saturday October 12th. Save the date! 7
Advertisement Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Hi andybarton, Take a look here One Challenge Nice 2024. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
octo Posted October 30, 2023 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2023 It's early time yet but I think I have a place for dinner in mind; I will check with them and keep you updated. I must say I was expecting London to be the winner but Nice does offer possibilities. I hope you all had a great time in Dubrovnik, I wish I could have been there and I am looking forward to see your best efforts in the forum shortly.
andybarton Posted December 8, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted December 8, 2023 Well, I have booked a hotel at the airport and one in Nice, so it looks like we are up for another Challenge 🙂
andybarton Posted December 8, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted December 8, 2023 And as a treat, we have decided to fly from London City. Chocks away! The train all the way to Nice is just stupid money, although we can take the train to get to the airport and back.
Sandokan Posted December 12, 2023 Share #5 Posted December 12, 2023 Nothing booked yet, but hoping to get time off next year. Its going to be a very busy year with MS Copilot revolutionising my industry and maybe making the starting jobs redundant ... but where can you find people with experience if you don't train anyone?
MartinEB Posted January 5, 2024 Share #6 Posted January 5, 2024 I am fervently hoping to join this. One of my issues will be getting medical insurance cover. Also that whilst I can probably function ok once there I will need help with some domestic stuff. I don’t think it makes sense for me to come on my own - I know that the family wouldn’t be happy and they would be right. I know and like Nice and would love to go.October should be warm enough during the day with a risk of rain. In the interim I have booked a two bedroom apartment near the old town that can be cancelled at no cost. A hotel wouldn’t work. I would be quite happy pottering about there, taking a few photos and could probably do that on my own. I want to go for a week to make it a holiday and have booked from the Tuesday before to the Monday after. I booked the apartment for three people in case the person who comes has a +1. I will look at flights and having someone with me on the flights would be necessary and be a great help - I will book airport assistance and that can work well. This may all seem a bit early but it needs thinking through, as I am in hospital currently I couldn’t get medical travel cover at present. I need to be fit enough to do this.(I now live alone in an apartment block with 24hour cover). And I need to find a carer, and have a few ideas - I might find a photographer- and agree arrangements etc. - I will pay for the apartment and flights for starters. If anyone has any suggestions then a PM would be welcome. It is good to have plans! And meeting fellow forum members from all over is always good.
andybarton Posted January 5, 2024 Author Share #7 Posted January 5, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Excellent. Have a look at WorldFirst for insurance. They covered me while I was having Chemo. The holiday was in the US and 14 days cover was about £100, IIRC.
Mike40 Posted January 23, 2024 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2024 Really hope to make this. Enjoyed a long visit to the area in 2014 and returned from my last week in Nice at the end of last November. Great reason for another visit.
christoph_d Posted March 21, 2024 Share #9 Posted March 21, 2024 Veronique and I have booked for the event. Looking fwd to see you all and curious about the photographic opportunities. Do you know that they’ve got a photography museum in the city?

andybarton Posted March 23, 2024 Author Share #16 Posted March 23, 2024 Here are the Rules and Instructions from last year's Challenge in Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik Challenge Rules etc Updated.pdf It's a social event with forum members (and partners) who gather each year in a different city in the middle of October. The Nice Challenge will be the 20th Anniversary one, in Europe, but there have also been events in Japan, Australia and the US. We tend to arrive on the Thursday before the Saturday and leave on the Monday morning. This gives plenty of time to recce the city (if we haven't been there before) and also the opportunity to meet up with fellow travellers. Nowadays we try to organise a dinner on the Saturday evening for everyone who wants one and I'd say we have always been very well catered for wherever we have gone. The social side is what it's all about, really, with the competition element being the catalyst for the get together. It's always good fun, and great to meet with other forum members, some of whom have become good friends outside of the forum. You would be very welcome to join us if you can.

The rules are very original and interesting, one camera, one lens, 36 shots. I had visions of a gaggle of photographers all jostling for the best shot at the same location. This is clearly not what happens. So count me in please! I am not great at walking long distances, but I will take taxis as necessary to get to my chosen locations. N.B. I am fluent in French so will be happy to assist other participants with any communication issues, if needed. What do I need to do next? Hotel, etc?
andybarton Posted March 23, 2024 Author Share #18 Posted March 23, 2024 Great news! If you look at the shots taken in Dubrovnik for example, you can see that despite being a very small city, there are a wide variety of shots presented. Having been to Nice before, I know that there’s a lot of different locations that would be ideal. I already have a location in mind 😊 We will be in a small hotel in the city centre and I’m sure that’s where most people will be and where the dinner will be. More details once venues have been chosen. I always like to sort out travel arrangements months in advance but now might be a good time to book a hotel room. Autumn on the Riviera is usually very pleasant and therefore popular. Fluent French is definitely an advantage!

andybarton Posted March 23, 2024 Author Share #20 Posted March 23, 2024 As we all make our own arrangements there isn’t a “forum hotel”. I’ll PM you the details of where we are.
