UV IR filter E58 for Telyt 200 f4 and Telyt 280 f4.8

Good morning everyone  ,
I'm doing research to understand if Leica has ever produced a 58 mm diameter UV IR filter. I would have to put it on the Telyt 200 F4 and on the Telyt 280 f4.8.
I saw that there is the 13422 filter produced by Leica for the Super Elmar 18 ASPH (which has a diameter of 58 mm), but I don't know if this
UV IR filter can also be used for the Telyt 200 f4 and the Telyt 280 f4.8.
Does anyone know?

The UV IR filter for the 18mm Super Elmar was a special construction as the lens doesn't have the usual inner filter thread. For a lens which needs 58mm filters with the usual inner thread you might look elsewhere for an UV IR filter: https://bw-filtershop.de/products/basic-486-uv-ir-sperrfilter-mrc?variant=41178556367008

There is no reason to use Leica filters - the BW and Heliopan ones are better and cheaper - 58 mm IR filters were never offered by Leica anyway.

When it comes to Leitz and Leica, one should never say that something was never offered:

Here on the lens:

Believe me, it has a 58mm thread. Though as I mentioned above this is a special construction for this lens. The filter has a female thread and it fits on the male thread of the lens  usually meant for the hood. You can screw the hood on top of the filter. Therefore it won't fit the normal 58mm thread of other lenses, antonio-p was looking for.

Hello Antonio,

Welcome to the Forum

At the time that the 200mm f4 Telyt & the 280mm f4.8 Telyt, Versions I & II were being made: Leitz provided the same SEPARATE UV & IR filters in E 58 size for these versions.

There were no combined UV + IR filters in E 58 made by Leitz, for these lenses, at that time.

The filters were:

UV - 13270  &  IR - 13265

Version III (11914) of the 280 f4.8 Telyt takes Series VIII filters.

Leitz only lists a UV filter 13018.

Other providers may have the IR filter, or a combined UV & IR filter, in Series VIII.

If the Series VIII filter retaining ring is missing: The number is 14169

I believe this was a dark red filter for infra-red photography. It wouldn’t fulfill the purposes of an UV IR-cut filter.

No, you have to use an adapter for 77mm Filters, which makes the lens very clumsy. The specially designed UV IR-cut filter was a workaround from the times of the M8.

Maybe if I can find the UV IR one I can replace the glass.

I then discovered that the Leica Filter Series VIII UV/IR 13420 in combination with the Leitz Filter Adapter VIII 14169 can be mounted on the Telyt 280 f4.8.
In the end I opted for this solution.
This solution is also good for the 200 telyt f4
