Lucameras Posted September 19, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got a very good deal on a Leica R6.2 but now I don’t want to go broke buy buying Leica R lenses and would like to put M42 mount lenses on it but I can’t find adaptors do they exist? Advertisement Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 Hi Lucameras, Take a look here Adaptors. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hepcat Posted September 19, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2023 Nope. The flange to film distance on the Leica R lenses is considerably longer than the M42 standard. You can (theoretically) adapt R lenses to M42 cameras, but not the other way around. THAT is also why R bodies and Leicaflex bodies are so relatively inexpensive. The R lenses have a rebirth working on mirrorless cameras... and so have gotten quite expensive, but no other lenses adapt to the R bodies. So there's a LOT of R bodies "out there" for sale at quite reasonable prices. This is just not the time to buy one if you don't already have a stable of R lenses. That said, some of the early R mount Elmarits can still be had reasonably. Just make sure you get "3 Cam" lenses for your R6.2 if you want the auto diaphragm to work. 2 Cam lenses will work with stop-down metering.
Bobitybob Posted September 19, 2023 Share #3 Posted September 19, 2023 If you can find a Tamron Adaptall adapter for Leica R, they are relatively rare but can be seen occasionally on eBay etc. then you can use the reasonably inexpensive Tamron Adaptall lenses. Might be ok until you can move on to Leica R lenses.

Might be ok until you can move on to Leica R lenses. I found that an adaptall adapter-R alone can be quite expensive and very rare. Then it makes more sense trying to find a reasonably priced user R lens. There still are a few bargain R lenses around. Like for example the excellent Minolta made R zoom lenses in the 70 - 200 (or similar) range, and the 135 mm F28 Elmarits. Standard R lenses and wides are getting more expensive, but it is all relative. Compared to their M counterparts of the time, R lenses are still a bargain. davidmknoble Posted October 7, 2023 Share #9 Posted October 7, 2023 By the way, the Leica 6.2 also works with ROM lenses. I don’t know if it works with R only lenses (and I suspect not), but ROM lenses work fine (I have the 6.2 and R8 R9 and share ROM lenses on all 3).
