William K. Posted September 1, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Let me start this conversation by saying, I own the Q3 and I like the Q3's moveable LCD Screen Panel. Let me repeat - I like the Q3's moveable screen and I thank Leica for listening to user requests for the feature; it is a useful, desirable feature for photographers! Now having said that, I have a question for fellow Q3 owners -- on your Q3 have you seen what appears to be a scratch or crack in the upper left portion of the LCD panel's frame? I've attached three photos of my LCD screen frame, which show what appears to be either an unusual scratch or the starting of a crack in the frame. At this point the scratch/crack is only on the rear-facing side - the scratch/crack does not currently wrap around the side of the frame. And it may indeed only be a scratch, but it's an unusual scratch if that's what it is. Have any other Q3 owners experienced anything similar? Thank you. Welcome, dear visitor! LarsOtium Posted September 1, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 1, 2023 How old is your Q3 (i.e. months)? Would be surprised if came from factory that way. From looking at mine it appears to be a metal piece that edges the screen. Do you remember scratching it? That looks like a gouge in the metal. It does appear to be a gouge or deep scratch…those don’t usually just magically appear. If it didn’t come that way when you opened the box you may have inadvertently caused it. As a dealer I’ve dealt with many cases of people, their camera over their shoulder on a strap brushing against a doorframe or some such.
BobsFirstLeica Posted September 2, 2023 Share #4 Posted September 2, 2023 (edited) My Q3 shows no anomaly on the screen panel. As bobtodrick mentioned, if it didn't come from the factory that way then there may have been an inadvertent cause. Distressing, to say the least, on such a new cam that you obviously outfitted with a protective case. I always keep mine in a bag (in the "honeymoon period") and remove it to shoot..... then right back in the bag. William K. Posted September 2, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted September 2, 2023 Lars / Bob - I received my Q3 on the announcement date, so I've had it since May. I don't recall doing anything that would cause a scratch like that, but it's always possible. If no one else is seeing any frame issues, then I'll feel better (mostly)! It has its first battle scar 🙂. Just like the first scratch on a new car..it's painful but somehow it takes some of the pressure off to keep it pristine. Aram Langhans Posted September 2, 2023 Share #7 Posted September 2, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received mine Tuesday and it does not have any blemish, if that makes you feel even better. Probably self-inflicted for better or worse.
rich_ Posted September 2, 2023 Share #8 Posted September 2, 2023 I received one this week and it is box fresh without any scratches, thankfully. I wouldn't fancy posting it back to Europe!

Now that I said that, I'll get one the next time I go out..... and yes I own more than one automobile. Bob 1

Daniel C.1975 Posted September 2, 2023 Share #12 Posted September 2, 2023 As it is to my knowledge metal, and you can also see this slight shiny portion in the scratch towards the screen to support this knowledge, I would say, from the photos, that this is "just" a scratch. Can happen, even if it is always hard to swallow on a new cam.
