From the beginning, I aimed for the possibility of adding panoramic frame lines, which would be projected on the viewing screen of the camera. It's a small thing that can make it easier for the photographer in the field (in such a way that it will allow him in real time to 'see a panoramic framing of the photographed subject'). Such an addition should not be an impossible task for Leica. Certainly when you can find similar options for shooting in a crop ratio of 65:24 with Hasselblad X2D as well as with Sigma Quattro and Sigma fp cameras. Anyway, I wish Leica would respond to my request. And on this occasion, I wish you to have a similar option for your LEICA SL as well.

The SL has no framelines…

Take black tape and tape over the rear screen and use live view. Otherwise just crop when you get back. Honestly I see nothing particularly special about composing so one can crop down the photo. Put subject in middle, crop top and bottom. Done. Not my cup of tea visually - they just look cropped, that's all, when taken with a full frame 35. I'd use a specialist panoramic camera to begin with if that's what I wanted to accomplish.

That said I don't see why Leica couldn't implement a live view panoramic crop feature easily enough - just don't expect them to go messing with the optical viewfinder (and if they do, I have dibs on them adding full time - i.e. manual mode -  shutter speed info first).

Ignoring the deliberate misunderstandings and apparent trolling by a moderator, you can do what I do on my M10 and Sony A7, neither of which have panoramic aspect ratio marks. In both cameras you can enable the grids, in the M10 case the 6x4 view. The result of this is that if you take the 2nd and 3rd row (of 4) then you get a 3:1 ratio image. I tend to like the XPAN format which is approx 2.7:1 and therefore only slightly looser than what I can compose for on the screen.

I don't tend to do this on the M10 much because I prefer to use the rangefinder but on the Sony (or most other EVF cameras) you'll get the grid in the viewfinder. Great fun with a fairly wide lens. 24mm will get you the equivalent field of view of the XPAN 45mm.

Actually, if one wanted to, they could approximate a panoramic frame with the optical viewfinder by fashioning a frame made of thin black card and taping it to the front of the viewfinder. Of course, it won't move with parallax, but one could make it a mid to far distance (which is most panorama's I would assume) and guesstimate a bit for closer. Fashion it so it's easy to take on/off.

There's plenty of choice so I guess it's unfortunate that you chose a camera which is sold to the photographic community based on its simplicity and purity rather than having a full range of built in novelty modes.

Are you not aware that you are using a sophisticated digital camera? Or that one can use an EVF built for it if one wishes to buy it? Not that you are forced to, of course. You can luxuriate in your advanced, electronic digital ‘simplicity and purity’ if you need to, and use just the digital camera all on its own. All power to you.

Others might want to buy that devilishly impure EVF which already uses framelines! Adding 1 for 65x24 panorama (a frequently used X-Pan ratio) to ease visualisation would not only be very easy and cost almost nothing for Leica, it might actually add value to others and help a few users. I for one, would love that addition.

As for those who can, amazingly, and astonishingly pre visualise, well, take your photographer expert medal and just enjoy your brilliance.
