Ozymandias Posted July 22, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 22, 2023 Some (centre) areas do appear to be in focus. When using macro setting the depth of field is very shallow - especially with the Q3's lens. What was your f setting? If wide open, you could try stopping down to f8 or f11 and see if you get a greater portion of your subject in focus. Also the subject matter may be better if taken more side on. You could also try shooting from a bit further away and then cropping. The closer you are the shallower the depth of field/focus area. Paul

city of bristol Posted July 22, 2023 Share #4 Posted July 22, 2023 A good idea is to shoot the same image at various aperture settings say f 1.7 , f 4 ,f 8 and f 16 ,then when you take a close look you can select the image that suits you. Sometimes you might really like the shallow depth wide open but maybe not..?
Leica Guy Posted July 23, 2023 Share #5 Posted July 23, 2023 Use a tripod if possible and watch out for wind moving the flowers. Depth of field is a big variable in macro because its much smaller in general. Play with aperture to find what you like.
jaapv Posted July 24, 2023 Share #6 Posted July 24, 2023 For static subjects use focus stacking.
Aram Langhans Posted July 25, 2023 Share #7 Posted July 25, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes. Focus stacking is the best way to get depth if the subject is pretty thick. And you do not have to stop down to f-11 or so, so that keeps the background nice and smooth. Use F-5.6 or F-8. Of course, it has to be not windy if the subject is movable. I use a tripod and then the touch autofocus and release method on the screen. Just tap around the subject so you have samples from closest to furthest and blend them in Photoshop or some other stacking software. It also helps as was suggested above to keep the main area of interest in the same plane (distance from lens) if the composition lends itself to that. behr Posted April 7, 2024 Share #8 Posted April 7, 2024 When will auto focus stacking be available in Q3 software?
Le Chef Posted April 7, 2024 Share #9 Posted April 7, 2024 Shoot manual focus, and remember the nearer you are to the object the narrower the depth of field will appear to be. With manual focus you also have a better sense of what the depth of field will be. But test multiple apertures with the same subject - it costs nothing but a bit of time. luetz Posted April 8, 2024 Share #11 Posted April 8, 2024 Macro setting will ignore the Aperture ring setting and shoot @ 2.8. This was the case with the Q2 as well. Limited to the DOF of F2.8.
Sparkassenkunde Posted April 8, 2024 Share #12 Posted April 8, 2024 (edited) The last post is wrong! You can’t use the range from f1.7 to f2.8 but the smaller apertures to f16 are possible! f2.8: Welcome, dear visitor!
