I took my Q3 out for an urban hike in downtown Asheville NC this morning. My initial thoughts - the Q3 as a street shooter is light years ahead of my Q2 that I sold last month for $4K (after having owned it since just after its launch date about 4 years ago). My settings were AFC, eye/face detect and focus point in last position. Because I was sloppy I left it at ISO 800 even though it would have done well at IS) 100 because of abundant morning light. Also I accidentally left the drive mode on 2 multiple shots which unfortunately disabled perspective control, a fabulous feature now available in the Q3 (M10/11 have had it for a while) which would have saved me time/effort in post straightening the images in adobe camera raw.

I LOVED the tilt screen which enabled me to covertly snap candid street portraits and also to take shots at knee level. I read one post on this forum which said it was hard to deploy the flip screen, but that wasn't my experience.

But the biggest revelation was the auto focus which, with settings noted above, allowed me to quickly place focus point where I wanted it by touching the screen, and it instantly locked focus especially to faces/eyes. Again, a huge improvement over the Q2 whose AF I thought was not great.

I shout at largest mps, and the ability to crop close was fantastick.

Pictures from this mornings outing are here. 2023-7-20 Asheville Urban Hike - brick (smugmug.com)

I used SilverEfex for the black/white conversions and played with some of the more colorful ones in Topaz Adjust AI. Yes some of the processed pics are more saturated that others may like, but - a chacun a son gout.

Looking forward to taking the Q3 out one evening and seeing if it lives up to the hype regarding low light performance. I certainly won't be surprised if it does.

Conclusion: the Q3 (for me) has finally fulfilled the promise I had for the original Q when I first bought it years ago, being a street shooter that perfectly meets my needs.

In SL2-S and likely in Q3, the angles are always stored in the DNG, and LPC can be applied in LrC or ACR after the import (press the Guided button).

I dont' have to do that. I simply open the image in ACR, go to Geometry and click the button for perspective crop.

Yes, that is the same, there are two buttons in the same Geometry panel (ACR) that do the same thing,

I understand the Q2, but not the m11. Why?

Only because I couldn’t afford the Q3 otherwise. Which is why I probably won’t do it because I bought the M11 specifically because of the smaller lenses

There’s no comparing the M11 to any Q. M11 is for those who want interchangeable lenses and manual focus, completely opposite to why people want the Q, so I’m sort of confused by your answers

Sorry for any confusion. My point is simply that I have both the Q2 and M11 and I consider them to be complementary cameras. All I was trying to say was that the Q3 is tempting, particularly that for me the hinged rear screen would be a boon. But, I can’t afford it and could only do so if I sold the M11, which I don’t want to do and in realty the Q2 is already more than I need.

All getting a bit complicated for my initial comment that was intended as a throw away attempt at humour!
