SAH Posted July 14, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Q3 seems to change autofocus mode on its own. It does this when switching between remote function w FOTOS back to EVF use, but also I’ll pick it up and it seems to have just changed from last use. Anyone else? Ianrandy Posted July 14, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2023 You've not got it set to Intelligent AF have you? That'll switch between AF-s and AF-c based on what the camera thinks is best
SAH Posted July 14, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted July 14, 2023 No - I checked iAF. Not on. This is weird.....
pixelpunch Posted July 15, 2023 Share #4 Posted July 15, 2023 (edited) I have noticed the same behaviour. The camera set itself in AFs mode from when I use the iPhone screen for selecting a focus point. Then it doesn't reset when I disconnect. jaapv Posted July 15, 2023 Share #5 Posted July 15, 2023 Does it make a difference whether you disconnect. on your phone or. on the camera?

Maybe I am missing something but this, to me, logically, would be consistent with what I would expect is normal behavior. If I use FOTOS I am using the camera mounted on a tripod or sitting someplace stable. The subject, or even a self portrait, is relatively stable so AFs seems like the logical AF choice. No need for AFc....maybe iAF for a little movement but doubtful the programmers saw it necessary. The camera therefore sets itself to AFs, the photo is taken (or not taken), and when one disconnects the phone from the camera, the camera defaults to the last AF mode used.....which is AFs. What may not make sense, and may be an issue, is the OP's comment: "but also I’ll pick it up and it seems to have just changed from last use." However, so far, this has not happened with my Q3. SAH Posted July 15, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted July 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now that you mention it, it makes sense that REMOTE mode would change the AF mode and then it would stay set that way since it was the last setting. The issue of the camera changing its settings from use to use seems to have settled out. Did a hard reset by mistake and - poof - no more problems.. Doesn't explain why this occurred own first place though.....

Yes. My gripe with the behaviour is that it doesn't go back to the mode it was before connecting to the Fotos app once I'm done. And it's also not only AFs, but also the AF mode that gets set to ”Field”. But sure, now that I know about it, it's not a big problem. Made me miss a few shots though, and also made me wonder who had used my camera without telling me. : )
