MEC Posted July 7, 2023 Share #1  Posted July 7, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, everyone! Question: I purchased an M6 almost twenty years ago, and the individual I bought it from on eBay said he did something to the camera so it would function like an MP. Anyone have an idea of what that might be? Thanks in advance.  Michael

MEC Posted July 7, 2023 Author Share #3  Posted July 7, 2023 It was internal. I vaguely recall him saying he had something inserted into the camera. A condenser maybe?
Anbaric Posted July 7, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted July 7, 2023 (edited) The original M6 doesn't have a condenser lens in the viewfinder, which makes rangefinder patch flare ('white out') more likely. Upgrading it with the MP condenser improves the situation. Edited July 7, 2023 by Anbaric
madNbad Posted July 7, 2023 Share #5 Â Posted July 7, 2023 He probably did the MP finder upgrade which includes adding the condenser to reduce finder flare and multicoated finder windows.
Huss Posted July 7, 2023 Share #6 Â Posted July 7, 2023 If your rf patch in your M6 does not flare out, then he did the MP condenser conversion.

smb Posted July 10, 2023 Share #11  Posted July 10, 2023 I have and M6ttl with 0,85 viewfinder that I upgraded to an MP viewfinder. Too much flare on original. Is this a possible answer to your question?
hellobrandonscott Posted July 11, 2023 Share #12 Â Posted July 11, 2023 The fact that you bought something on eBay 20 years ago is wild. To me eBay is like max 10 years old. ...I'm old.

If it is install missing condenser, that's fine. Does viewfinder optic glasses need to be replaced too?

The multicoated window will help reduce glare making focusing easier.
ktmrider2 Posted November 8, 2023 Share #17 Â Posted November 8, 2023 And it should be noted that the classic M's (M2, M3, M4 and M5) have the condenser in the viewfinder. Â It was removed by Leica on the M4-2 and subsequent cameras up to the M7 (I think but not sure about the M7 but I know it was not in the M6TTL) in order to cheapen the manufacturing costs. Â The M2 viewfinder served as the basis for every subsequent M. Â I am not sure how much the M3 differs from the M2 except the M3 is .91 magnification and the M2 is .72 magnification. Â Everyone says if you primarily shoot 50 and don't need a meter to get an M3. Â I shall now say that if you shoot primarily 35, get the M2. Â I have not seen this idea before but will advance the M2 is to 35 as M3 is to 50. Â The single frames brought up in the M2 makes it the BEST viewfinder Leica ever made (assuming you do not want a meter or do not need a 75 frame line. The whole frame can be used for 28 and if you purchase a 135f2.8 the goggles will convert the 90 frame line into a 135.

It's now my favorite M VF (I have M2,3,4,5, &6)
