Hi, everyone! Question: I purchased an M6 almost twenty years ago, and the individual I bought it from on eBay said he did something to the camera so it would function like an MP. Anyone have an idea of what that might be? Thanks in advance.

The original M6 doesn't have a condenser lens in the viewfinder, which makes rangefinder patch flare ('white out') more likely. Upgrading it with the MP condenser improves the situation.

I have and M6ttl with  0,85 viewfinder that I upgraded to an MP viewfinder.  Too much flare on original.  Is this a possible answer to your question?

If it is install missing condenser, that's fine. Does viewfinder optic glasses need to be replaced too?

The full upgrade should include replacing the viewfinder window with a multicoated one as well as installing the condenser to reduce flare. The multicoated window will help reduce glare making focusing easier.

And it should be noted that the classic M's (M2, M3, M4 and M5) have the condenser in the viewfinder.  It was removed by Leica on the M4-2 and subsequent cameras up to the M7 (I think but not sure about the M7 but I know it was not in the M6TTL) in order to cheapen the manufacturing costs.  The M2 viewfinder served as the basis for every subsequent M.  I am not sure how much the M3 differs from the M2 except the M3 is .91 magnification and the M2 is .72 magnification.

Everyone says if you primarily shoot 50 and don't need a meter to get an M3.  I shall now say that if you shoot primarily 35, get the M2.  I have not seen this idea before but will advance the M2 is to 35 as M3 is to 50.  The single frames brought up in the M2 makes it the BEST viewfinder Leica ever made (assuming you do not want a meter or do not need a 75 frame line.

The whole frame can be used for 28 and if you purchase a 135f2.8 the goggles will convert the 90 frame line into a 135.

When I had DAG upgrade my M6 he said he didn't think the multicoated window replacement made much difference, but I had it done anyway. It's now my favorite M VF (I have M2,3,4,5, &6)
