Hi Andreas,

Not a converter per se but I have one more essential image tool to mention if it fits the needs of your list: I do my culling, keywording (you can save templates), rating, deleting with Photo Mechanic 6 before importing into LR which I can do directly from PM 6 (fastest thing out there for viewing and culling). It's been around since the late 90s and a long time favorite of photojournalists. Interface is basic (i.e. not elegant) but worth it for the speed.

Cheers,

Joel

Remember that cameras such as the D-Lux 7 have RAW processing in the camera itself - that is to say that you can go through your images and re-process the RAW files that you saved along with your JPEGs and produce new JPEGs.

This means that your workflow might go along the lines of: take your pictures; after the event (protest march/news event or whatever) go and process any images you want to; email them off to your editor/post on social media.

I don't know why this features isn't present on all of the cameras with a display on the back as opposed to just some. The software libraries within the camera can certainly do all of this already - the jpeg producing routines, even the menu/interface routines are already there, they just need making accessible to the user. I would have thought that this feature would be on the Q series M series and the SL series cameras. AFAIK, it is only on the D-Lux cameras and I suspect it is on the C-Lux cameras as well.

Be nice if Leica included this in its next software update for those cameras

Adobe Lightroom (both versions) and Photoshop use exactly the same raw converter - Adobe Camera Raw.  There are not different raw converters for each Adobe app.  There are some interface differences, but same raw converter.  Then you have to ask if folks are using Adobe's profiles, the camera's embedded profiles, or some third party source of profiles, including self-generated profiles using something like X-Rite Passport.

Mathworks MATLAB with Image Processing Toolbox

MATLAB home license is perpetual and open up a lot of possiblities to write your own image processing, I use it with colorchecker target for batch  processing etc. The latest project is an inverter for negative film scans, a DNG inverter.

Some programming background is needed for MATLAB.

For traditional editing I use Capture One.

Apology if I've missed it but don't see my preferred raw (dng) developer mentioned - namely Raw Photo Processor 64 (RPP). I've used on X, M8 and now Q files and suits my processing needs which are extremely limited. I come from a film/darkroom background and have no issues finding my around the software. The only thing I would say is that RPP develops the whole of the Q file, I then have to import the processed , saved, TIFF file to Affinity Photo to apply a lens correction to bring the file size back to 28mm and eliminate the severe corner vignetting. Can see that as a problem for some Q users.

(No longer employ Adobe ACR in any form, nor Nikon NX - RPP works well for NEF files also)

Hi Jaap, as you say nothing wrong with Affinity conversions, I am just comfortable using RPP. An extra step in the great scheme of things is no big deal for me but I agree could be problematic for some. [ I too have been a Leica user since 1976, my first being an M2. Long gone but missed ]

Essentially, I use Apple Photos. Also have SILKYPIX Developer Studio 11 Pro (steep learning curve )and OM Workshop. The latter is not used anymore. I gave up Lightroom several years ago because of subscription model.
