I purchased a half case for my M10 and found that I almost never used it.  However, since trading for a new SL2-s, I am thinking of new half case.  Has anyone purchased a half case for their camera?  What brand?

Cheers,

Jim

I have a Silver SL2 ordered but I don't yet know if I'll go with a half case. If I do I'll go with a high quality case by Arte di mano. Likely the "open type" with the optional battery changing system so the case can stay on all the time. It's expensive and would take a couple months to get, but worth it for me:

I would not suggest using half case, it makes SL too bulky.

L plate would be a good choice if you want something protect your camera.

Of course "too bulky" is subjective and depends on hand size, case material-design, and personal preference. What brand case did you try on your SL? For my old Leica R8, which is a big bruiser, its Luigi half case makes it "more comfortable" for me by softening the edges and giving me a more secure grip. I agree having a Arca-Swiss baseplate or L bracket is a good idea also, I bought a RRS baseplate for using the SL2 on my monopod & tripod.

I have not half an hour ago, ordered for my new SL2-S this............

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07SRPMJ3Z/ref=pe_27063361_485629781_TE_item

The camera was getting too near my belt buckle for my liking, I like a long strap.

That looks like a great case for the price. It says for the SL, so you know it will fit your SL2-S OK?

OOp's silly me, thought the SL and SL2-A had the same chassis, but of course they don't.

Someday I'll have to learn to read 🫤

I've cancelled it.

I’ve got a Luigi full case for mine. A bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. It doesn’t screw in at the bottom so easily removed to get access to the card slot. It’s a trade off for the extra coverage, but it doesn’t bother me.

I didn't know Luigi was still making cases. So does your friction fit case feel secure when using it out and about? Did you buy it on ebay?

I bought mine some time back. My first SL case was from his website and SL2-S case was from eBay. It’s friction fit and secure, doesn’t feel loose despite putting it on/taking it off numerous times.

The Luigi case is very well made. I picked one from him about 10 months ago and am very pleased with it. Shipping was very fast too…less than 24 hours from ordering to receiving it (Rome to UK)

That Luigi case looks very nice Steven. An off topic question: How do you like your APO 75 and why did you choose it over the APO 90? I'm new to the SL system. Thanks for your thoughts.

has anyone bought from this store? they look as good as any other model i seen ahd they have the option for the sd card as batter opening which luigis chargers an additional fee. They seemed to be well constructed and in etsy have quite some good reviews.

I chose the 75 over the 90 as it is closer to 50mm and I am more likely to use it as a general lens. I love the 90mm focal length but I know I would not use it as much and the high cost of the APO’s meant I had to make a choice. Three years on from purchasing the 75 I have no regrets, it is a beautiful lens. However if I was more wealthy I would have both 😀

Thanks much for your input Steven. Yes, one APO will be enough for quite a while. Your logic about the 75 being a more general purpose focal length hits a chord with me. I would also be using the APO & SL2 in combination with my Q2. Given the Q's 28(26)mm perspective the 75 seems like a decent gap that's not too tele. Thinking more about it, during my Fuji APS-C days my favorite Fujicron was the 50/2.0 which in full frame terms is a 75mm. So your thoughts and my own use history points towards the 75 as the APO answer. Thanks again, that really helps.

The SL2-S has a grip that feels right as it is, but I've been enjoying a Luigi case on my M9 for coming up to 15 years now. The tactile 'give' of leather is something that a hard camera body doesn't have. Maybe I'll try a half case for the 2S, it could be worth it.
