Louis, Samy is French, from the Bordeaux region but now a citizen of the world, this image taken in London.

I find your title xenophobic and offensive!….

I think you may be mis reading this, Louis. ‘Nonchalant’ means relaxed, cool, calm, laid back.

Paul, This is a French word and I do know the meaning.  I have no issue with the picture, but I find the title of "French "coolness" "  kind of xenophobic and offensive for this shot.

Kind Regards

Louis, I have far more important things on my mind than to enter a dialogue with you.  I suggest that you do not read my posts or comment and I shall reciprocate.

Well, David can answer for himself, but I’m sure any negative meaning was not meant - I read it as a positive comment.

Thank you Paul.  First up, Samy and I have a friendship that has evolved over the years and I think that he would laugh at the idea that I was xenophobic, I have photographed Samy on many occasions, one not posted on this forum, has won a prestigious award with the British Journal of Photography.  The area where most of my photography takes place is the most racially and ethnically diverse in the UK, and I believe that what I do is a celebration of that diversity, I'm quite ethnically diverse myself.  Many people who have agreed to be photographed have African or Afro-Caribbean origins, some are gay, some are transgender.  Ask any of them if I am xenophobic and they would think the idea preposterous.  A couple of years ago, I photographed a young African-American woman, she wanted to introduce me to her mum.

I've lived and worked in France and likewise any of my colleagues would have found the notion that I was xenophobic ridiculous.
