In my world, Leica M cameras would be made without tripod holes or flash shoes.

So in your world you wouldn't allow people to use an M for night photography or fireworks?

And how would an M owner mount an external viewfinder?

Would you also ban bean bags? :D

Pete.

I'm wondering if it makes it difficult to get your eye close to the viewfinder.

Not at all. This small tripod was my first Leica item. I used it with my old nikon F90 specially with telelenses. And is small and light but strong and it is very adaptive. You can regulate the pods(just tricky at the begining) and find the right position. When I use it on the shoulder is very quick changing the frame (just moving the body) and very confortable. My neck and back are right and I don't have to force the position to get to the viewfinder. Over a table suppor even long lenses and it's very easy to hold it against a vertical wall.

My father is a Leica user and lover for the last fifty years and when I started with nikon, he advised me to buy it and told me how to use it.

I'm not a leica seller;) , I'm just very happy with it.

Miguel

Well sure. I only have to be concerned about me in my perfect world.:)

I actually wrote without thinking. I did mount my M8 on a tripod one evening a few months ago for a night shot. And I'm sure I'll probably do it again some day.

And I wasn't really thinking about external finders - so my world would just have non-functioning flash shoes so that we'd still have a place to put those.
