New: Leica SL2 in Silver

Now as a Design Variant with a Classic Look – also available in two attractive kits together with a lens

Wetzlar, 15th June 2023. Leica cameras have always remained true to their line. The design follows the function and is characterised by minimalist features concentrating on the essentials. It speaks an unmistakable language with a special emphasis on visual and haptic value. This unique look is also reflected in the new product variant of the Leica SL2 in silver. Furthermore, it is reminiscent of the typical design of the popular silver Leica M and Leica R camera classics.

With the SL2 in silver, Leica Camera AG complies with the wish of its customers and once again demonstrates a sustained exchange with the very people who use Leica products. The design variant presents itself with a silver anodised top plate and base plate. Its elegant black leather covering is identical to the Leica M11 and rounds off the classic look. Visually, the silver Leica SL2 is particularly appealing in combination with the M-Adapter L and the legendary, compact M lenses.

The technical specifications of the silver Leica SL2 are the same as those of the existing series model in black. Extremely intuitive, easy and comfortable to use, it produces photographs and videos of impressive image quality thanks to its powerful 47 MP CMOS sensor. Its high dynamic range and a sensitivity range of up to ISO 50,000 deliver outstanding pictures in all lighting conditions. These can be triggered remotely via the Leica FOTOS app and transferred via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Many other functions ensure a seamless workflow and allow the Leica SL2 to be conveniently integrated into professional setups.

The Leica SL2 in silver will be available globally at all Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and authorised dealers starting now. The retail price will be €7,100.00 including VAT.

In addition, Leica is offering two kits with an attractive price advantage to match the new design variant. The silver Leica SL2 is available in a kit together with the versatile Vario-Elmarit-SL 24- 70 f/2.8 ASPH. for €9,100.00. The second kit consists of the silver anodised design version and the classic Noctilux-M 50 f/1.2 ASPH. including M-Adapter L and is available for €13,890.00. This also allows for the possibility of combining all M-Lenses ever produced with SL-Cameras and thus using their unmistakable look for photography and videography.

I can never understand why companies make a big thing about the colour of a camera. The colour of a camera will not improve the taken image. Nobody has ever looked at a photograph and said "That would have been a much better image if it had been taken with a blue/black/white... camera".

As for Leica:

Build quality - Nailed it

Images quality - Nailed it

Customer service - Nailed it

Price - Err, not so much. To miss-quote somebody else, it is reassuringly expensive .

Really? The last time I was in the flagship Madrid store buying the new M11M, I wanted the new 50/1.4 with it. They were released same day and in stock. The manager tells me he has both black and silver and prefers the silver. So I ask if he would show me one so I can see how it looks on the body. He immediately said no. Refused even to open the box. Basically said if you buy it you can see it otherwise no chance.
I am never going to buy from there again.

It's nice to have options? I'd be lying if I didn't admit part of the reason I choose Leica is because of the way their cameras look. Aesthetics matter to some folks, including myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You don't need to understand it, but Leica knows their market.

A good chunk, maybe even the majority are not thinking about the final image.

They are making watches. Their cameras are, for many, jewelry with a little bit of fun real working features.

It wouldn’t stop me from making a purchasing decision whether a camera is black or silver. My one positive thought about the silver SL2 is that it might look less bulky/ intimidating in public than the all black version.  I would have to see them side by side in order to determine if that was true or not.

to me it makes it look like a vintage camera from the film days just like the Nikon fZn (?) And I like that

Not his fault… the owner of a local camera store in Lausanne Switzerland told me once he lost the sale of a brand new, just released M10R to a neurotic Leicaman because the seal of the box had been broken when the shop owner checked the camera upon arrival…

I really wish this version was available around the time the original SL2 was released. I have a bit of a soft spot for two tone cameras but having caved in and purchased the black one last year, I will not be getting this. I would also like to see a titanium or gunmetal finish, maybe in the form of the SL3. If it came early enough in the products life cycle, I would likely get one.

To echo others, it would be crazy to buy this with the SL3 probably around the corner.

Well, you can call me crazy Geoff. I pre-ordered a Silver SL2 from B&H this morning. For a crazy man I have plenty of good reasons for doing so. This includes knowledge of the 47MP sensor's performance; the SL2 is proven platform that will not be chock full of bugs like the new models are; a limited 1000 production run with the silver aesthetics that reminds me of my old film cameras of the seventies; and finally, I have a nice collection of M lenses that will have a nice stabilized home for the balance of this year and early next for my trips here and abroad.

Aside from the silver - good chance the SL3 will offer precisely zero reason to upgrade for many of us happy SL2 owners - sort of like how the M11 made me as excited as a wet potato to swap out my M10. If I didn't have an SL2 I would have no qualms buying it now and using it immediately instead of waiting(wasting) more of my life missing photos every day for some marginal gain in stuff that is immaterial to me.

It's obviously a very "wide corner" I dont think Leica will have an issue with sales of 1000 silver units. I haven't been influenced by camera looks however paying extra for a SL2S Reporter recently I not only got a great camera but an extremely nice looking camera. For an additional 6% I can say my investment is worth the happiness I get when using this camera.
