Hello everyone,

Is there a verified list of production volumes per camera bodies & lenses? Confirming production levels with serial numbers can be tricky because there may have been "jumps" in serial numbers.

It would help ranking Leica production by rarity (& collectability). Also, when aluminium bodies started being produced, which cameras and how many were still made of brass ?  E.g. M6 Ti was made of brass, M6TTL, M-P, M8.2, M9, etc. How many black M6 were black chrome over aluminium vs black paint over brass?

Regarding production numbers of film M cameras, so far I have

M3: 216,000

M2: 82,000

M4: 47,200

M4-2: 17,000

M5: 31,400 (how many 3-lugs vs 2-lugs, how many black, how many chrome?)

M6: 132,454 (75453 black chrome, 51725 silver chrome et 5276 special editions)

M-P Classic: 500

Missing:

M4-P:

M7:

M-P:

CL:

MD:

MD-2:

M-A

MP original 1956:

Production breakdown would be interesting  also  for Barnack models and for R models.

Welcome to the Forum !! As a newbie, maybe you haven't yet spotted our Wiki area : https://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Main_Page#Film_M

which includes several of the "Missing" of your list : as always, not the Bible... 😉 historical data are often, for various reasons, questionable.

No M6s and M6TTLs were chromed aluminium. Top plates were all made of a zinc alloy, except for a few special editions.

Thank you! This wiki is great!

All production numbers for Barnacks, and for Ms except the M-A.

There are no production numbers for digital Ms.
