I havent used optical filters, apart from polarizers, and I have used one of those for several years, as I tend to shoot wide angle. The 28mm of the Q3 is a "normal" focal length for me. With my Canon R6 I often use 16 or 12 mm. But I reserve my right to change my mind about this if the technology in "looks" develops beyond where it is today. For today, I am with Jaapv on this subject. 😀
Advertisement Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Hi David Wien, Take a look here Q3 - Leica Looks. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 18, 2024 Share #82 Posted March 18, 2024 Optical filters are only useful on Monochrome cameras except pol and ND
David Wien Posted March 18, 2024 Share #83 Posted March 18, 2024 CORRECTION (sorry!): I havent used optical filters, apart from polarizers, and I have not used one of those for several years, as I tend to shoot wide angle. The 28mm of the Q3 is a "normal" focal length for me. With my Canon R6 I often use 16 or 12 mm. Jaap is, of course, right about coloured lenses, but I am not a fan of B&W. I have ND filters for all my Canon lenses, as they came packaged with Pol and UV filters from Hoya, but havent yet found an opportunity to use them. M Street Photographer Posted March 18, 2024 Share #84 Posted March 18, 2024 I don't know if Leica is reading this. What I'm missing is that I can't see in the Exif whether and if so which look was used. It would be helpful.

It's recorded as tag "Film Mode" under "Maker Notes".

As an accident i found out a way to extract the profiles for Leica Looks available for the Q3 to then be used as a profile for any other software including Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom and yes, they work for my Q2 or any other camera i have perfectly even on raw files! Being a hacker since a young age I thought to resurrect my reverse engineering skills and by accident bumped into this as my original reason for tinkering with the Leica Firmware was to build a feature that would allow me to directly sync files to my privately hosted NextCloud instance using the on-board Wi-Fi so I wouldnt have to rely on the rather flaky Leica FOTOS app. However the bad news is that sharing this knowledge will most likely fall under some rather annoying reverse engineering laws, but trust me, it is entirely possible to do by anyone with little to no skill after i figured out another way of extracting this information via an alternative method to reversing the firmware files. Hi fortitude, could you please contact me pm?
