Well one thing is clear.  The Leica Q3 is an extremely hard camera to get right now.  Leica is a small company that doesn't have the manufacturing scale that Sony, Nikon and Canon have, as those three manufacture more conventionally through Asian mass production.  Where as Leica hand builds these things, which take time.  In fact the demand has upticked so high, that we're now seeing QC issues in some of the newer cameras from time to time, no doubt because the company is not used to such high demand.  It's unfortunate because we can't blame Leica for wanting to sell more cameras, which is good for them and good for us users of Leica, as they can keep making great and new cameras, but I think it's going to take a lot of time before this initial surge in orders gets completely filled.

I've tried my best to refresh that order page when I have a free minute, but it's starting to get obsessive, and at some point, I have to stop and accept that the wait for this camera is going to be long.  I've put pre-orders in with B&H, Adorama, Leica Store Soho, Leica Store Miami and a small local camera store in my city.  Between the small batches coming in, and probably a bunch of people beginning to cancel their orders by the fall, I'm hoping/expecting to see maybe a word from one of the five shops coming in this fall/winter.  But I think I'm gonna quit trying to catch an order on the Leica website.  Cause I haven't had any luck, there doesn't seem to be a consistently scheduled time that I've experienced, and I'm not building any scripts to monitor the page.  I'd rather spend that time shooting with my other Leica cameras!  :)

Lok forward to receiving my Leica Q3 in late 2023 or early 2024.. 😁

I completely agree. I rather wait longer For a camera without issues than get one tomorrow that has a problem.

I have yet to hear from anyone who has received their Q3 order from Adorama.

Adorama found out I was talking smack about them and decided to ship my camera this morning. The estimated delivery is Thursday. I placed my order on launch day at 9:51 AM EST.

Perhaps my little story will cheer others.  Like many others here I had largely set the Q3 aside, psychologically.  I placed myself on a soft list at one of my long-time primary small (non-Leica) dealers but eschewed any hard (deposit) lists or any other soft lists.  Again like many others I'd play Leica online shop bingo once or twice a day hoping for an "Add to Cart" button on the Q3 page.  (Hey, I've got my M11 and several very scarce lenses that way!)  But no luck.  I howled at the few Q3 listings on eBay, generally in the $7,600+ range.  Insane.

But then last week my dealer notified my that they expect to have a Q3 available for me this week.  So Leica is making sausages and they are getting allocated to dealers beyond Leica's own shops.  It really does pay to have a good loyal relationship with a dealer.  (But don't give up the Leica online bingo!)

I’m curious if anyone has received notification from the Leica US web store that there were Q3s in stock or a heads up that some would be available on a date/time? I am signed up for notifications but so far have not received any notifications even though there have been very small batches available.

Yea, a Leica USA Customer Service rep called me a month or so ago as they were about to put some Q3 inventory (2 cameras, I think) up for sale on their website.  Luckily, I was at my computer when I took his call . . .

It’s common sense. Apple sells pod pros for $249 on their website direct to customer. Amazon sells them between $189-$229. They were just $199 2 days ago. Apple obviously sells to Amazon in bulk and Amazon always discounts them. Clearly apple makes more per unit direct to customer than Amazon. But Amazon makes up for the much lower margin in volume. This is pretty basic stuff. You don’t need to work for Apple or Amazon to know this.

This is a joke right? Common sense?

Profit = Revenue - Cost

Just because revenue is lower from one retailer, it doesn’t mean it’s below cost which is what you are claiming by saying “Look at Apple, the started selling on Amazon and lose money on each sale”.

It’s pretty basic stuff. You don’t need to work for Apple or Amazon to know this.

June 1 order on B&H, I don’t think I can get my camera this year…

the worse thing is I am from oversea so they already charge me. Can’t believe an online shop can keep accept orders but don’t even know when and how much they can send out, I think they should stop receive orders now.

Are you certain you were actually charged for the camera?   Like most vendors, B&H will issue a pre-authorization charge to a customer card for a pre-order just to verify that the payment method is valid.  But you’ve not actually been charged for the item.  Check with your credit card company to see if your balance has actually changed.

Any orders with credit cards whose billing address is non-US will be charged fully and immediately. It's not a hold charge or anything like with domestic cards.

I pre ordered at B&C, and my card was charged, paying on a camera I do not have. I feel the pain

For the US reader, I highly recommend ordering a Q3 from a Leica US store as they 1/don't require a deposit or pre-pay; 2/they seem to get the preference on stock; and 3/ they may or may not charge sales tax depending on your shipping address State.

I live in Germany, thus I used the Leica Germany website, I signed up for notifications and I received an email 24 hours before the Leica Q3 was back in stock, end of June. The email stated the specific time slot where the camera was going to be available on the website. Of course many other people received the same email, as the website went down for several minutes. Fortunately I was one of the lucky ones to get one 😉

Just got an email from the Leica Store UK waitlist

Quote

Dear valued customer,

We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during your wait for the highly anticipated Leica Q3 to be back in stock online. We have experienced overwhelming demand for this exceptional product, which has far surpassed our expectations. This has resulted in a substantial number of registrations on our notification list. As you may know, to maintain the quality and craftsmanship that goes into our products we can only produce a certain number of units per month, globally.

Therefore, to ensure fair distribution of the Leica Q3, we are now implementing a new approach for our Online Store. We will be holding a periodical draw from those who have signed up on the notification list, until further notice. Our team will then contact those who have been selected to share the next steps for purchase. Please note that if you are not selected in this particular draw, there will be other opportunities for you to be selected in subsequent draws. This way, every customer who has expressed interest will have an equal opportunity to obtain the Leica Q3.

We take this time to thank you for being a part of the Leica community. To ensure you are fully up to date with Leica activities please register here.

If you have not used our Q system before you might be interested in our Q Experience via our Akademie.

We look forward to serving you with exceptional products and services in the future.

Best wishes,

Leica Camera Online Store UK
