I ordered my Q3 at the Sydney Leica store in mid-August and was told I would have to wait for 3 months.😩

However, about two weeks ago, I unexpectedly received a call notifying me that it had arrived. I quickly went to pick it up, and there was another customer in the store also picking up a Q3. In total, I waited for approximately 10 weeks.🥰

I ordered from Leica Miami on May 25 before 10 am. Got a confirmation right away regarding my order as well as the accessories I was interested in. Since then I have heard nothing, and when I called for an update in October, I was given no information.  🤔 They must have had a lot of orders that morning.

The thumbrest topic is really a curious one.

I get it that it is difficult to ramp up the capacity for a complicated device like the camera. But to not be able to deliver the thumbrest in halfway sufficient numbers is really odd.

Last week I have been in the Leica-Store / Gallery in Munich and they were building up a new display set-up, therefore a marketing director from Wetzler has been there to oversee the implementation.

He overheard me asking for the thumbrest in black (in a futile attempt as I just was in the vicinity) and he was curious why I don't want to have a silver or golden one. Over talking about why I prefer the black version, we came to the production capacity of the thumbrest.

He told me, that the thumbrest is being produced in the Leica plant in Portugal and they currently produce at max capacity, which is obviously not enough. He also admitted that he doesn't believe that the thumbrest availability will improve short term.

So I believe, all Q3 owners who want to have the thumbrest need to be patient.

I'm not sure Leica even wants to ramp up production of anything. If they wanted to, they had half a year to figure it out. I think they think scarcity maintains demand and they're content with that.

I don't believe he is able to influence that strongly. He works in Marketing, not Operations or Sales. Also I believe he is at least two levels to low. He might give feedback and voice of customer feedback. But that's all.

Marketing Director sounds big and influancial, but isn't in a larg company with a strong division of tasks.

I dont know the dynamics of the Leica company. But he cant market something if the product is not available. I am sure he and his colleagues will point out to management the discrepancy between supply and demand for such a low tech accessory!  It seems to me that such must be part of his job description.

I received my Q3 yesterday from a local dealer OC Camera in Lake Forest, California.  I was in their store recently and asked if they were receiving shipments of the Q3.  I was told they receive a few each month.  I added my name to their waiting list and received the "call" within a couple of weeks.

Has anyone tried the LIM thumb grip. Half the price, but the buttons look gold colored? And I hate all the verbiage on the back

Been thinking about getting this and going to town on it with a Sharpie. It seems ridiculous that Leica can't make these simple and obviously high margin products fast enough. Unless they intentionally keep production slow to make all of their products precious.

yes I have them both. there's really not that much of a difference, obviously the leica one feels slightly more premium especially with the etching not the bad writing on the lim but at half price you can't go wrong.
