Leica Girl Posted October 4, 2023 Share #1041 Posted October 4, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Ordered by Q3 and accessories from B&H on May 25th and received on September 14th. Super happy with the Q3. It will take a bit to get accustomed to the new user interface on the Q3, but don’t see it as a real obstacle. Love the tones straight out of camera and, of course, the IQ is superb. Even with the thumb grip and half case attached, I don’t feel confident holding it without the camera strap around my neck. I will be acquiring the AdM case for this little jewel as on my previous Q, making the grip much more secure. Taken at 1/60 sec @ f/5.6 ISO 100, handheld. Welcome, dear visitor! LocalHero1953 Posted October 4, 2023 Share #1042 Posted October 4, 2023 Curious about the comment on grip and everyone ordering grips, thumbies and half cases. I have the Q2 Reporter (very grippy aramid fibre finish) and find I can easily hold it in one hand without add-ons (though I use a wrist strap). Is the standard Q3 finish particularly slippery?

Its all just ergonomics really (and personal taste/looks). The Q3 appears to have pretty much the same finish/front covering as all previous Q's (compared with my QP and Q2's anyway). My Reporter did have slightly "grippier" paint so to speak and the aramid finish which was different but I think mostly its down to personal hand size/grip. I have had half cases with some kind of front grip bump on my Q's in the past but am thinking nekkid for this Q3. I may get a very costly thumb grip as I do have long fingers and it may feel more secure but atm a paradors wrist strap is all I have and its fine.
Torontoamateur Posted October 4, 2023 Share #1044 Posted October 4, 2023 We decided to cancel the B&H order and had the $8,000 CND deposit returned, It did not make sense to keep that tired up with no info on when the camra would come We had waited 4 months with no news. But Cheer Up If the Q3 becomes an in stock model , especially from a Canadian dealer we will be buying one. In the meantime the X1DII is loving the 80mm F/1.9 Enjoy
wareko Posted October 4, 2023 Share #1045 Posted October 4, 2023 (edited) I have been following this forum for quite some time as I have been on the B&H Waitlist since June 2nd. A few weeks ago I stopped in and asked where I was in the queue. The person told me I was number 820 or so and they were only about a hundred in. So he said unless they get a big shipment from Leica I was more than likely looking at early next year at the rate they were receiving them. So I then went to the Leica Store in Soho, New York. I was told by them that if I got on their list now and they received 10 a week I would be getting my Q3 by early next year at the earliest! So I did some searching and contacted Leica Lisse in the Netherlands via email and inquired if they had stock. Even though it was a Sunday evening and I know the store was closed I received a reply a few hours later confirming they had stock and they had one available for purchase. I replied and paid on Monday afternoon and had a tracking number Tuesday morning. I just received the Leica Q3 today. One day from the Netherlands to NYC! Item was packaged beautifully- customer service was the very best. I can highly recommend Duncan Meeder over at Leica Lisse. 5 star service! I did a Google search on "largest selling photography equipment stores by revenue in the world" and it came up with this list. I'm not using this as a "trusted source", but check out #10 & 11 - pretty close! Regardless of standings, it's pretty clear they don't like each other much. 1. WaitListed Posted October 4, 2023 Share #1048 Posted October 4, 2023 So, I am happy to announce that I am now in possession of a Q3! Albeit through a somewhat questionable manner. I originally put in an order with B&H on June 29th. After reading through this forum, I took some of the sage advice given and found a couple of Leica stores within an hour’s drive and got on their waiting lists on August 18th. When I spoke to Mr.X at the smaller of the two stores, he said I was #22 on the list, but they were only getting 1-2 cameras/month, so it would be a while. A month later on Sept 20th, I called back and Mr.X said I was now #11 on the list (they moved through half the list in just a month!). Sensing I might be close to getting a camera, I called again yesterday to see where I was on the list. I did not immediately talk with Mr.X, but Mr.Z informed me that I was now #24 on the list. WTF?!!! Obviously dealing with a now very agitated customer, Mr.Z offered to have Mr.X call me back to explain my new position on the list. 30min later, Mr.X calls me and says, “I have a Q3 for you right now, when can you pick it up?”. Hmmm…funny how that works. Anyway, I am very happy to have a Q3 and excited to start taking pictures (which is the whole reason I got into this cult 😊), but honestly, this whole process has not endeared me to the Leica brand. $230 aluminum thumb bars, $70 shutter screws, $170 batteries, the “I know a guy, who knows a guy” camera distribution methods… I have been struggling with trying to justify my desires for this camera. And my apologies to whomever now must wait a little longer for their Q3 - it was not my intention to cut in line (I hate when people do that), but apparently that’s how this model works. The battery is charging! I’m sure the guilt of lucking-out and spending money will pass as soon as I start taking some pics and get to re-experience the joy and art of photography again with my new toy. Good luck to you all! - (no longer) WaitListed
wareko Posted October 4, 2023 Share #1049 Posted October 4, 2023 I checked with Leica and was told that the item carries the international guarantee when purchased through an authorized Leica dealer. It would only have to go to Wetzlar at their discretion.
dnease Posted October 4, 2023 Share #1050 Posted October 4, 2023 I'm in DC for a conference and stopped by the Leica Store here to tempt myself. I'd been in back shortly after the Q3 release and played with one a bit, but today really took it out on the street to put it through its paces. Whew. The autofocus is a real advance over the Q2 for street photography. Needless to say, I'm now on their order list. The folks in the store were super nice, willing to discuss trading for my Q2, etc.

Woodstock Posted October 5, 2023 Share #1052 Posted October 5, 2023 Thanks to BeMoreDog's helpful post I got the other Q3 that was on GWP's website on Friday evening. It arrived yesterday when coincidentally I also received a message from a major UK Leica dealer saying that the Q3 I had pre-ordered on July 30th was now in stock. This does seem to suggest that supply issues, at least in the UK, may be easing somewhat, despite the tales of woe still being reported, particularly in respect to USA supplies. An interesting day therefore yesterday, with three related items (Q3, grip, and filter) arriving from three different suppliers by three different couriers, more or less at the same time. Bit like Christmas! Currently going through the set up with the aid of Hudson Henry's YouTube video.

Thanks rayansb, I think you ordered your's on June 30th, correct? You will be one order closer after I cancel my order on Monday! 🙂 Enjoy the $500+ savings! (If you used their PayBoo card), that's what I was hoping to save in going with B&H. As an FYI (since you are also interested in accessories), I am going to return the Leica Brand half-case I purchased, I didn't do enough research to realize what an amazingly bad implementation it is. The fastening screw is very close to the flap (annoying for someone with big fingers to maneuver) and there is no access to the SD card or USB slots, so you have to remove the case every time you want to take change cards - ridiculous). I'm looking at the LIM half-case, which is getting good reviews. I'm also canceling my Leica soft release button order for some other less expensive options (I was so attracted to the bling!! 🙂). I obviously did better research on the camera then the accessories. (Oh, I am keeping my order for the Leica thumb support, as I want the ridges, which the LIM (and other) versions do not seem to provide.) Hopefully there will be a flush of new B&H orders available when they get back from Succos! Good luck! PS. The Q3 gets surprisingly hot when being used. There are probably some background settings I need to turn off, so some more research to do, but it's currently getting pretty toasty. We'll see how it does in the sunny 85 degree weather this weekend.
wareko Posted October 5, 2023 Share #1054 Posted October 5, 2023 One thing I noticed when downloading the files is that red looks like red again compared to the original Leica Q. The original Q had a pinkish tint to it. And on this Q3 the JPEGS coming out of it were so much better than the JPEGS out of the Q. I always shot in RAW and never used the JPEGS. Must be the sensor and the tweaks they did but SOOC shots are very very good. Also the autofocus is much better than the original Q..I never used autofocus because the miss rate was pretty high and higher in low light. This one nails focus much better. And of course the EVF is beautiful. It looks the same as the Leica Sl2-S which I almost got instead of the Q because I didn’t want to wait any longer. But once the Sl2-S was next to the Q3 it was so much larger and so much heavier. I dreaded carrying that around. Glad I stuck with the Q. Its a beautiful camera and a great upgrade from the original Q.
Goon525 Posted October 6, 2023 Share #1055 Posted October 6, 2023 Another vote for Ffordes of Scotland. Ten days after ordering, and, vitally, being willing to pay a deposit which moved me ahead of those interested but not so willing, I have just received my Q3. Packaging absolutely beautiful!

LDes Posted October 7, 2023 Share #1058 Posted October 7, 2023 (edited) Hi, first forum post! Just wanted to share a great experience getting a Q3 online from the Leica Store in Amsterdam. Ordered 30.09 after confirming they had stock via email, dispatched on 02.10, arrived in Berlin 04.10 very nicely packed. They seem to be out of stock right now, but I can highly recommend them if they get some back in. Currently getting familiar with the camera and enjoying the upgrade from the X100F : ) PS: Date on the box showed 29.09 and it arrived with firmware 1.3.0 pre-installed. rayansb Posted October 8, 2023 Share #1059 Posted October 8, 2023 so I'm considering ordering a second battery but at 170 dollars (WTF Leica?) I'm wondering if it'll be a good investment for my use. I shoot for pleasure so I'm not a professional does the Q3 drain that much juice?
Le Chef Posted October 8, 2023 Share #1060 Posted October 8, 2023 If the price of the battery bothers you, buy a Q2 battery which fits and should be cheaper.
