One of the largest Leica Stores in Germany received last week... only 2 (!) cameras 😀. They told me that to their knowledge Leica produces about 100 cameras / month, and this will cover the worlwide demand.

100 cameras a month definitely not right, that means they only sell 4800 Leica Q's before releasing another model. The tiny shop I bought from said they get reliably 4-5 per month. There are 10-20 Leica dealers in the UK, call it 15, thats 75 to the UK if everyone got 5, which they wont I wouldn't think. I understand Park cameras, LCE, WEX get more, Red Dot and Leica in Mayfair and Manchester probably get more too.

1000 Q's per month would make more sense

I assume it's their most popular line, after any digicam sale.

In 2016 Leica were reported to be selling 100k cameras per year.

Yea, stores tell a lot of crap to keep a customer not jumping ship. Of course Leica doesn't just product 100 cameras a MONTH. A small Leica Store in Germany I contacted late July just told me they got one in stock for me. That's 1.5 months wait. So I am going with them rather than B&H.

I am on a waiting list of a small Leica Boutique in Munich (so, in Leica-Land and 300km from the Leica HQ and I am a regular customer) since day 2 or 3, not 100% sure, after release.

Still I can read here that people a) randomly call a shop and pick up the Q3 or ordered in June and July somewhere in the US, the UK etc. and have also meanwhile received their camera.

I've called the Leica-Store around two weeks ago to ask for the status and to be sure that I am on the waiting list (bad experience in the past) and I am - so far the good news. However, I am far behind on the waiting list and they still have people on the list where the date of being put on the list is the 9th of May - the Q3 has not even been released at that time.

The very friendly guy on the phone told me, that they will call me once it's my turn, but he really doesn't know nothing how soon this will be. He expect this being rather by end of the year than anytime soon. Hopefully I will be positively surprised with an earlier call.

I don't think that's cool, but it is what it is. I am just writing this, to show that it doesn't necessarily make a difference to order from small shop or from a big one. I believe it is just pure luck. And honestly, I would prefer the way I've read some UK-shops are doing it: A lottery every time they get some cameras and not a waiting list. For sure people being put on the waiting list before release might see this differently :)

You are a loyal customer to that shop which is nice to hear.

To get mine, I had to call probably 10 places before I found on that was available soon. Most quoted 3-12 month delivery depending on their wait list and how they manage it.

I was lucky to find one that didn't want to manage a waiting list and just took orders for the 4-5 they get every month.

However the large companies in the UK are 6-12 months approx.

I dont mean all small shops are quick, but all the large ones are almost always going to be slow.

I reckon if you called every German / Austrian based Leica dealer you could have one by the end of September / October maybe. If you wanna buy one from the UK, I can give you the store details and maybe they can ship to you. They will have another 4 next month.

Within a week or two likely. Getting it shipped to me abroad actually. I reached out to a bunch of stores mid-to-late July when I walked into the Leica Frankfurt store to buy some accessories for the Q3 I still had on order from B&H back then and we started talking. They offered to send it to me abroad, which I wasn't aware they'd do (apparently only some stores do). After VAT reduction it actually ended up being about 5k EUR and hence less than my B&H order that I happily cancelled (terrible service). I contacted a few more stores to get on their lists. All smaller Leica Stores and only got friendly replies when I reached out.

I just had notification that myQ3  order from 29th May has arrived. I managed to snag one a few weeks back so I won't be needing this one. I have some time before I need to accept or cancel; if someone wants to make me an offer I'll happily make the purchase and sell it on, otherwise I'll be cancelling mid next week.

It'll need to be a cash, face to face deal. I'm iin the UK, South Devon. DM me.

EU experience

Hi! After reading the forum, I was expecting to buy a camera by 2024, but the stars aligned differently. On August 29th, I received a notification that the camera was back in stock. I placed an order the same day and received it today, September 1st. No waiting list, no SMS, no dealer loyalty. First come, first served. I am very happy.

The camera's production date is August 25th.

Here are a couple of stores where cameras are in stock and can be purchased right now:

Leica store Amsterdam (leicastoreamsterdam.com) - Amsterdam, Netherlands (I bought it here)

Balticoptics.lv - Riga, Latvia

Good luck!

I don't know for sure, but the serial number for the Q3 sure looks sequential to me. Based on my initial Q3 (replaced due to dust in lens) that I received on July 8th and the replacement I got yesterday, there was about a 5000 difference in the numbers. So ~5000 Q3s per month might be a reasonable guesstimate.

Was that order with B&H, or somewhere else? I'm guessing somewhere else.

I ended up paying $200 over list price inc tax, to receive one quickly. I usually despise paying over MSRP but our baby is at a pivotal age so I quickly needed some macro shots and a camera my wife could use easily after I sold my Q2 Reporter some months back and was left with Film and Digital M's.

I ordered Tuesday night and it arrived Thursday afternoon. It was brokered by a known reseller and interestingly i noted that it had been shipped directly Fedex priority from a official Leica dealer in Europe. They even shipped a nice photography book with it and a personalized message to me. So there must be some on the shelves still!

I won't bore with further details but I was very pleased that the slightly different description on the Fedex form was in fact a sealed box Q3 with with a manufacture date from 2 weeks ago!
