petereprice Posted July 9, 2023 Share #542 Posted July 9, 2023 I’ve gone to the Leicacamerausa.com website everyday for the last couple of weeks hitting refresh and have never seen it available for purchase. Not sure how the lucky few have been able to get it online randomly like that! i’m also on a few waiting lists with a few stores. Hoping one of these avenues will become available within the next couple of months. It’s hard to say. Any tips?

Have they not joined the option to be emailed from Leica USA when stocks will be available from? They should update you couple of day before as to which date and time to revisit the website to buy. (they've restocked 3-4 times) The email is sent out to pre registered interested parties about two days BEFORE the stock is available for sale on the Leica website. Leica know when their stocks will be made available and will only release on that day and time they have stated? One just needs to be ready? At least that's how it's works in the UK.... It depends on the state. For New Jersey, sales tax is charged since Leica has a physical presence here. Sample: Welcome, dear visitor! I'm not sure Leicacamerausa is the same entity as the individual stores. Tax depends on physical presence in a state or economic nexus which is a total sales amount or number of sales. For example, economic nexus in Virginia is $100k in sales or 200 transactions per tax year. If you reach that threshold in a Virginia and you don't have physical presence, you will need to charge sales tax.

I logged in (address in California), added a lens to the cart, at the checkout the tax was added (I did not complete the purchase, though). LocalHero1953 Posted July 10, 2023 Share #554 Posted July 10, 2023 You can tell there have been slow supplies since the first batch were sold. The forum classifieds section peaked at 6 Leica Qs being offered for sale shortly after the Q3 launch. Now there are none.

My initial comment wasn't about California but detailing how taxes work for online sales. The poster made the assumption that Leicacamerausa and local Leica stores are the same entity but I'm not sure that's the case. Tax has to do with physical presence or economic nexus. If they are the same entity then having stores in the state would mean being taxed. If they are not the same, it's very likely that a state like California would already be way past the threshold for economic nexus. Same with other big GDP/high population states like New York. DQ03 Posted July 10, 2023 Share #558 Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) I just put a SL2-S bundled with a 35mm f/2 Summicron in my cart and typed in my CA address. Yes, I have to pay sales tax. But I did not proceed to check out, cannot afford this and a Q3 at the same time. 😀 Edited July 10, 2023 by DQ03
ShrewWithPurpose Posted July 10, 2023 Share #559 Posted July 10, 2023 Quote state to state differs, depends where you ship it. Saving over $300 to ship to PA vs CA.
Bobt Posted July 10, 2023 Share #560 Posted July 10, 2023 I'm looking for thoughts on return policies from different sellers. Since I have only handled a Q2 for a moment several years ago and not a Q3, it is appealing to buy from a seller with a more lenient return option. Crutchfield has up to 60 days and will do a full refund with a low shutter count (under 300). With buying through the Leica US website, if you open the box there is 15% restock charge. However, if I can snag one via Leica it could be much sooner and I doubt that I won't be thrilled with it. Is anyone else going through similar thoughts with selecting a dealer? Also, with all the talk on avoiding sales tax it makes me happy to live in a no sales tax state. Especially for big ticket items including vehicles.
