Leica Q3 Marketing Strategy

Is it just me or is it a bit self-defeating for Leica to give away the whole story before the announcement date?

I love my Q2 and will eventually buy the Q3 but it feels like we already know everything about the Q3 now. Specs, accessories, photos…what’s left?

Maybe some mystery would be good.

From Leica's standpoint it means you are ready to lay down your cash on Day 1, rather than a month later.

most initial leaks come from the companies themselves, they can gauge reactions and also hype up the product.

Normally Leica builds up a supply against the initial rush. Any shortages will come a few weeks to months later.

I think it's more likely that Leica have started sending out demo models and specs to local dealers, which is how most of these detailed leaks happen. Leica would probably prefer if nothing leaked before the reveal on the 25th, but losing a week or two of potential Q2 sales doesn't worry them too much I suspect.

Launches these days are rolling events from spy shots to planting stories with Leica Rumours, to TicTok videos to official launch and the “blessing” with a Jono review. Then lots of positive comments on forums like this + shots taken and on until the rumors about Q4 being designed by Audi begin to circulate and the whole thing starts again…

I don't think they're really aiming at mass appeal. It feels more like they’re keeping things quiet to maintain that exclusive vibe and let the product’s reputation carry it.

It’s like when you’re excited for a new gadget, but then the whole manual leaks beforehand—kind of kills the buzz. Reminds me of the time when my startup was figuring out payroll and I stumbled on this startup payroll guide that laid everything out so clearly, made the whole confusing process way less stressful.

My startup started by employing me, and then my wife (who did the bookkeeping). By the time I employed a stranger, we'd sorted out all the glitches over the dinner table.
