I don't wish to engage too deeply here, but I've found the M11 to be just as hand-holdable at low shutter speed as any non-IBIS or non-OIS Leica body/lens combination, looking back over more than 50 years of doing so.

To paraphrase an old chestnut...

I also don't want or need 60mb files, but I suppose that with IBIS at least there is a better chance of them being useable at lower shutter speeds, unlike with the M11.

If you go to the same output size camera shake will be equal for the M9 or M11 (or any M inbetween). 60 MP only means you can better detect it when enlarging to 100% on your computer screen.

Just pulled the trigger on a used Voigtlander 28mm Ultron II (mint! I like buying used to know that it's already a good copy), so no Q3 for me.

I was very tempted by the 8K video, weather sealing, but I just don't use the 28mm focal length enough to warrant using two camera bodies. If I'm ever doing a photo shoot where I need a wide focal length quite a bite, I'll just rent I guess, or realistically just use my big DSLRs at that point.

For me it is just too expensive for what it is: a fixed lens point and shoot. One day the camera will die or be overtaken by other technology, and that nice 28mm lens will die with it. If I used it every day I could probably justify the cost, but I know I wouldn't use it every day.

It's also too big for what it is.

I don’t think it will die one day .. the original Q is 7 years old and still a very strong camera.. and will last for many years .. the technology is not  fast as we think ..

Here's what the Q3 offers that I'd be interested in on top of using my M11:

  1. Weather protection
  2. 8K video
  3. 28mm focal length (I only shoot with a 50mm right now on my M11, and want something wider on occasion)
  4. close focus/macro (My 50mm is the close focus, but it's not anything near a macro setting)
  5. Phase detect hybrid AF (I don't do much that needs AF where using a RF doesn't work, but there could be times)

I think that's really it for me that would move me towards getting the Q3. A really nice Summilux 28mm lens is already 3/4 of the way there in price haha.

You could try the Elpro 52 with your 50mm and get quite near macro with your M11

You can also use your 50mm to stitch 4 shots in a 2x2 grid to get the 28mm FOV if you only do the occasional landsape ...

There. I've just saved you $5700 .... 🙂

You should have said something I would have sold you my copy. The Ultron 28 II is a great lens.

Since I got a 28mm Summilux for the M, there is no Q3 in my horizon. Love the lens details and strong colors.

Although the joke originated with Carnegie Hall as the destination.

I still have my Q2, but I barely use it anymore after buying an M11 a year ago - I think I only shot with it a couple of times when my M11 was being repaired.

I shot with Q and Q2 for years, and Q3 looks like a fantastic camera, but I see no reason to buy it right now.

Q3M, on the other hand, might be the perfect companion camera for me.

I find that whichever I use, I think that’s all I need. I was out with my Q2 last week and it was fantastic, leaving me wondering whether I should sell my M11. When I used my M11 a few weeks ago, I was wondering whether to sell my Q2. I just need to use each often enough that I’m left sitting on the fence!

I just picked up Q2 to take some test shots to see how it works with GPS, and you're right - it feels fantastic! Not selling my M11 any time soon because I love 35mm and 50mm and often end up cropping images from Q2. :)

I agree. Cropping on both cameras is fantastic. I almost always crop to a ridiculous degree and I haven’t noticed much difference between the 47MP sensor of the Q2 and the 60MP sensor of the M11. Example below is a SOOC jpeg from the Q2 which I cropped to focus on the fine details of the car.

Oh, I agree, both are an absolute overkill when it comes to resolution. I have several 1x1.5 meter prints in my house from the original 24 Mpx Q, and they look great.

Ah bummer. I usually try to buy/sell on Fred Miranda, just because of the credibility and generally the high volume of stuff that gets bought/sold there.

The Elpro is quite cool. This is shot with the Elpro + the 50 summilux.
