John Smith Posted May 11, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Came across this video that compares the new Summicrons to the APO lenses and the 50Lux. He says the Summicrons seem sharp until you compare them to the APOs and even the Lux. I wish he had included the 50APO-M. beewee Posted May 11, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 11, 2023 According to folks at Leica, the 50/1.4 SL is on par or sharper than the 50 APO M.

Yes, I believe that is true. I am interested in a comparison on the new Summicrons and the 50APO-M.
beewee Posted May 11, 2023 Share #4 Posted May 11, 2023 I recall seeing sample images of the 50 APO-M on the SL and it didn’t perform very well on the SL. It’s great on the M bodies but, being an older lens, it really needed the micro lens structure of the M sensor to perform at its best.
jplomley Posted May 12, 2023 Share #5 Posted May 12, 2023 APO SCs are class leading and the only reason to buy into the SL system IMHO. Nothing else like them on the market, incredible resolution wide open, fantastic bokeh and all without losing that cinematic look, consistently delivered between lenses of each focal length.
tom0511 Posted May 12, 2023 Share #6 Posted May 12, 2023 I love the rendering of the Summilux but prefer the size of the APO Summicron when travelling, so which of both should I keep???

I've only worked with the 35mm Apo SL (it was a rental). Best 35mm I've ever tried. And a solid reason to invest on an SL3 next year.

I just bought an apo135. Not Leica, but Zeiss ZE, which will need to do until Leica comes….
