Metsadah Posted May 10, 2023 Share #1  Posted May 10, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just bought a new SL2-s with a 50mm summicron f2 lens, love the camera so far, but there is one weird issue. When I set the camera to backbutton focus (I use the joystick as my focus, put it in AF-c, while the camera is in MF), the camera focusses just the samen as normal, but often when it locks on it keeps vibrating, you can even hear a deep humming sound and feel it quite well. Whenever I touch the joystick one more time to focus again it stops directly. It doesn't really have impact on the photo's, but it's very annoying when and gets me out of focus  (not the camera). It doesn't happen when the backbutton is in af-s, but I like the idea of af-c when keeping the joystick pressed, for walking subjects for example). This was the preferred method I used previously with Canon/Nikon and Sony camera's. Anyone with the same issue?

Virob Posted May 10, 2023 Share #2  Posted May 10, 2023 Yes, it does that in AFc, doesn’t matter if you are using the release button or joystick. The camera is constantly focusing when pressing, so the motors are active.

Yes, and that is why I am normally in AFs. With my Nikon bodies in AFc the camera will lock focus when I release the back button so I have the option of focus and re-compose for static subjects and, by holding the button down, continuous focus for moving ones. As near as I can tell the SL bodies do not lock focus when the joystick is released when in AFc. So if I press and release the joystick on a static subject and then release the shutter I get a significant percentage of out of focus images. This does not happen if I hold the joystick down and continuously focus, so there seems to be some mechanism by which the shutter does not release until focus is achieved during autofocus. I have 20 years of muscle memory using back button focus so I continue to use it with my SL cameras. Normally I am in AFs and I have a FN button programmed to shift to AFc when needed. Anyone with the same issue? I have the same issue, and there is mention of it with a Cron SL 35mm ASPH on another thread. I am actively talking with Leica about this, hopefully they will find the issue and get rid of it! I often shoot above head or at low angles and I see this issue often. Occasionally it happens withAFs as well, but only using the back screen, not the EVF.
