Robinyuill Posted April 27, 2023 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. Quick question, just bought a Q and I’ve remembered / found how they eat batteries but if I switch off the Ois when not needed will it save battery life? Regards Robin. Advertisement Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Hi Robinyuill, Take a look here Q Ois question.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SrMi Posted April 27, 2023 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2023 I do not believe that OIS on such a small lens uses that much battery. On the other hand, EVF and LCD do use a lot of power. I suggest using EVF-Extended mode and turning auto image review off to minimize the drain.

Robinyuill Posted April 28, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted April 28, 2023 Thanks. I’ve set the camera to evf extended and got two spare batteries already. Just wanted to know if it made any real difference in Ois setting. I’ll live with the battery life for the quality of the image!
Le Chef Posted April 28, 2023 Share #5 Posted April 28, 2023 You have 3 settings for OIS: 1) On all the time, 2) Auto for when the camera sees the shutter speed go below what it believes will cause shake and blurring 3) Off I leave the setting on “Auto” as I see no reason to turn it off. I have a second battery as well.

This too for me and think I have set mine to beneath 1/60th. Extended EVF too.

Having just checked, you appear to be right. I could swear I set the OIS kick in at some point. The camera is hard set to kick in on Auto at longer than 1/60s.
