Greg,

Beautiful pix.... Rothko meets HCB.... Or..... Andreas Gursky meets Robert Frank....You have the vision, the eye, the sense of realty that very few people have.  I'm sure your family and friends mean well, but ignore them.  Follow your muse...keep sending us your wonderful way of seeing. (John Berger)

Ciao,  Sully

.... No one I know that's close to me really understands of appreciates my photography. My wife and brother just look at me when I show them my work and go 'meh'; in fact, my brother now just flat out says he's not interested and I shouldn't bother because much as he loves me, he just doesn't have an appreciation for photography (at least not the kind I do). My wife's a bit more understanding; she looks at me and says 'tell me what you want me to say' :D

Greg, it comes with the territory.  My father once put all his effort into being nice about a picture, and could only came up with "it's very sharp!"  My family mostly prefers their phone-cam shots, especially if they can smear them around with a finger-paint app.  But actually this is an improvement over the days when they didn't look at pictures much.  Now they see much more.  And occasionally they appreciate something I saw. The kids are a bit more visually aware than the wife. We combine on albums from trips.

Hi Tommy, great to be connected with you on here and IG and thanks for your kind words. No one I know that's close to me really understands of appreciates my photography. my point is that whenever anyone comments positively, my heart really does give a little flutter. It's bad because I know that it's the dopamine effect and it's addictive but still.......

Honestly I find this difficult to believe (not that I do not believe you of course). Your work is amazing... Is there maybe a difference between how you are in everyday life and what comes out of your images about you, that they find difficult to reconcile?

may be so, but your work is fantastic! You connect beautifully with your subjects, so maybe you can be on the other side of the lens too....

:) I meant maybe they see a more artistic/humanistic(?) side that they cannot connect with... You see to connect well with strangers, most people cannot do that and they do not understand it

LOL I didn't think you meant what my response implied, although what I said is partly true.

I think there is a more general issue though of those being closest to you being least able to engage with what you're doing, especially where creativity is concerned. I had a really good friend from school who was an incredibly talented actress. I went to see her final production at university, a play based on the letters exchanged between Sylvia Plath and her mother (which meant there were only two people on stage for two hours delivering what were ostensibly soliloquis) and find the experience excruciating because all I could see was my friend. In reality the performance was spellbinding but my closeness and familiarity with my friend got in the way.

Hi guys,
I'm using the summilux M 50 asph on the SL but I was thinking of taking the Lux 50SL

I saw fantastic images made with this lens and the autofocus, with the new firmware, does not seem bad...

What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance

SL lens is better optically. It has AF and weather sealing.

The M lens is smaller, lighter, and has a vignetting effect that I find pleasing.

What he said.

If you can handle the size, the IQ is enough of an improvement to justify the switch. The AF is then a bonus. If you can't handle the size, then either don't buy it or have both the M and SL versions.
