Advertisement Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Hi fumigatus, Take a look here Firmware Update 5.0. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Blackadder978 Posted April 18, 2023 Share #22 Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) Have you tried a different card reaser, in case you have alternatives? And yes, this is confusing and rather annoying that it still hapens on some machines. Edited April 18, 2023 by Blackadder978
Perti L Posted April 18, 2023 Share #23 Posted April 18, 2023 If you have a memory card reader for iPhone, you can download the firmware to your phone and move it to the memory card. Did not know this was even possible, but it did work👍🏼😊
fumigatus Posted April 18, 2023 Share #24 Posted April 18, 2023 Thank you both. I apologize for bothering you with this. Found out something very odd right now. When I erase the old (4.0) version from the SD memory card, then the new version (5.0) can be dragged or copied over. But when I then insert the card in my Q2, the old version (4.0) reappears. Even when I simply try to erase the old version, copy over the new, and just reinsert the card in my Mac, the old version reappears in the external drive. It seems like the old version refuses to be deleted, blocking for the new version. I even tried to completely empty my SanDisk 124 GB Extreme PRO memory card, eject it and reinsert it. The same happened.

luetz Posted April 18, 2023 Share #27 Posted April 18, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Imac M1 on Ventura 13.3.1. Format your SD card in Camera. Download firmware 5.0 to Finder. Insert SD card to reader and drag file to SD card in Finder. Everything worked as expected after following the camera menu to start update. Note: My camera battery was at 3 bars and message would not allow download until I replaced battery with a fully charged battery. Replaced battery with a charged backup and firmware 5.0 is in place.
howard_cummer Posted April 19, 2023 Share #28 Posted April 19, 2023 I am visiting in Calgary Canada. I downloaded the update for my Q2 without difficulty on my MacBook Pro with the Monterey O/S except for the time zone setting. To set the correct time I had to set the time zone to +2 (Athens, Helsinki) instead of -7 (Denver, Phoenix) in order to get correct Calgary time. When I downloaded the Q2M update it again installed okay but the time zone time setter had to be set to +3 (Moscow, Nairobi) to get Calgary time. Both cameras seem to be working fine but the time zone settings are weird. Should I try to install the software again? Anyone else have the same problem? Trankster Posted April 19, 2023 Share #30 Posted April 19, 2023 (edited) Anyone need help restoring the file numbering after the upgrade? I upgraded to the latest Q2 firmware 5.0 and searched for past discussions of how to restore the file numbering to where I left off prior to the update. I thought it might be helpful to summarize the steps (plagiarized from a 2020 post by another member) in case others are newer to the Q2 or don’t recall the solution. After updating the firmware in my Q2, the file number restarts at L1000001. This seems to be an idiosyncrasy of the Q2. Renaming the folder to the latest (in my case Leica106) and copying the latest file into it did not work for me now or in prior updates. The solution takes a bit of time, but here it is. Start with a formatted card and shoot a photo, eject the SD card. The photo will be stored in a folder Leica100. Rename the file in your computer to L1009999.DNG. Reinsert the SD card in the camera and take a shot. The folder Leica101 will be created with a file starting with L1010001. Eject the SD card and rename the file to L1019999 and put it into the Q2 and take another shot. Repeat these steps with the newly created folders until the folder created is the last folder you had prior to the update. Take a shot and then rename the file to 1 beyond your last one and you should be good to go. Edited April 19, 2023 by Trankster 1
Aram Langhans Posted April 19, 2023 Share #31 Posted April 19, 2023 Downloaded and updated my Q2. Using a PC to copy to SD. No incidents. Worked perfectly. Tried the face/eye detection and I did not see any improvement. It didn't work well with 4.0 and it still does not work well with 5.0. Wish Leica would not tout a feature that is not ready for prime time. Hope Q3 will have more horsepower so this feature will actually work dependably. Fortunately I don't need it much and when I do I will use my Z7ii which works perfectly with this feature.

Improvement in face detection would be the main reason for updating the firmware, though wonder if others have had a better experience with face detection? Unfortunately your description applies to my experience with v4.0: face detection works only if someone is close to the camera and looking at it. I hope it is better than that. You do have to be quite close and the light has to be pretty bright for it to even find a face. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, but that has been my experience and I see no change with version 5. I tried locking on to some photos up close and it did not find anything. My wife is adverse to me pointing a camera at her but did it anyway. Nope. No lock. Maybe Leica firmware recognizes her reluctance and to preserve my marriage it chooses not to work. If that is the case, thank you, Leica. My marriage of 49 years is worth more than face detect.
