Carrot Posted April 13, 2023 Share #1  Posted April 13, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I currently have three user profiles set up (1,2,3). If I select profile 1, make NO changes to any camera setting, then turn the camera off and on  again, user profile 1 does not appear on the status screen … instead it shows an un-numbered profile, which I assume us the default one. I now have to manually select my profile every time I turn the camera on, whereas up until today the last user profile was always showing when I turned the camera on (assuming I’d made no un-saved changes to it).  When I press on the user profile icon on the status screen, in addition to my set profiles (1,2,3) there is now also the option of ‘Profile S’. I gave no idea what this is or why it’s there, I haven’t set it up. If I select it, however, it is retained when I turn the camera off and on again. Either my camera has developed a bug, or I’ve changed a setting somewhere that has created this rogue ‘S’ profile and which stops my selected profile being saved in the camera memory when I turn it off. Can anyone help me out here?
Advertisement Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Hi Carrot, Take a look here User profile not retained when turn off camera and on again [merged]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Carrot Posted April 13, 2023 Author Share #2  Posted April 13, 2023 So I’ve now realised that Profile S is the default.  However, I’ve just tested this on all my lenses (APO SL 35, 50, 90 and Super-Elmar 21mm f3.4), and have found the issue only arises with the 50mm and 21mm lenses, they don’t allow the user profile to be retained. With the 35mm and 90mm, the camera does retain my user profile when I turn it off and on again. I would be interested to see if anyone else gets this same fault with the SL APO 50mm, and S-E 21mm f3.4, so I can ascertain if it’s a firmware fault or I have defective lenses.
Photoworks Posted April 13, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted April 13, 2023 you probably make many changes and save to a profile, It works fine for me. the SE21 is an M lens, if you didn't save the profile with this lens selection, you are making a change to the lens profile, plus the camera switches to M or S mode. This is not a big deal as the other setting are maintained
Chuck Albertson Posted April 13, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted April 13, 2023 The profile you see when you turn the camera on (profile x on the SLR-S) is simply the profile that was in use when you last turned the camera off. If you were using your preferred profile at the time, it will start up with that profile, along with the settings you were using when the camera was turned off. Unless the camera is completely upsetting the way you had it set up when you turned off the camera (the hard-coded "default" profile is almost unrecognizable - Program mode, 1/80 second shutter speed, etc.), I don't see what the problem is.
Carrot Posted April 13, 2023 Author Share #5  Posted April 13, 2023 The problem is that the user profile appears correctly when I turn the camera on with the APO SL 35mm or 90mm mounted, but NOT when the APO SL 50mm is mounted. Instead of showing Profile 1, it shows an un-numbered profile, and I have to select Profile 1 every single time … and I’m not making any changes to camera settings. The 50mm is clearly causing the camera to function wrongly. If no one else has this issue with it, then it’s not a firmware error and I’ve got a faulty lens.
Photoworks Posted April 13, 2023 Share #6  Posted April 13, 2023 I see it with every lens change, I don't see what the problem is. it won't say Profile 1, but all the settings are still there, just the lens selection has changed and therefore there has been a modification of the same version. Carrot Posted April 13, 2023 Author Share #7  Posted April 13, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure how much clearer I can explain this, but … after selecting Profile 1 and making NO changes to any settings, Profile 1 is displayed on the status screen when I put on the 35mm or 90mm lens, but is NOT displayed when I attach the 50mm or 21mm lens. You suggest that all the Profile 1 settings are still engaged, but how can I be sure about that without checking every one each time I turn the camera on (which is totally impractical), or by selecting Profile 1 via the status screen (quicker, but still an unnecessary task). My 50mm (and 21mm) clearly operates differently to my 35mm and 90mm. If no one else is experiencing this, then I have a defective lens. If, however, someone also experiences this difference, then there is a firmware fault.
Shepherdphotographer Posted April 18, 2023 Share #8  Posted April 18, 2023 I have the same problem with my Leica SL (TYP 601). My camera doesn't save profile lens or changes focal lenght if I save profile lens off (I choose this option when I mount a Nikon lens with adapter). Also for me, now appears a new voice on the profile :"S", with the four profile you can choose! There are others problems: camera doesn't save WB when I turn off it.
Shepherdphotographer Posted April 18, 2023 Share #9  Posted April 18, 2023 Good morning, I recently bought a second Leica SL (TYP 601), after having bought and reviewed one.  I use many Leica R lenses with the bayonet changed to Nikon, because before I used these lenses on Nikon D810, with Urth adapter.  I also use some Nikon AI lenses.  As soon as I bought the camera, it already had firmware 3.8, updated.  I have some problems: first I thought that I made a mistake, forgetting to save or change an option, then, doing it carefully and as a test, I saw that the problem repeated itself!  1) The camera doesn't always save the user profile when it turns off and it doesn't save the WB.  I have to return it every time I turn on the camera.  Now also compare profile "S" as well as the four user profiles you can choose from.  2) I have now selected "on" for the beep, but the camera does not make any sound.  Can you help me please?  Thank you in advance
brembeck43 Posted April 18, 2023 Share #10 Â Posted April 18, 2023 when the saved profiles are gone, after you removed the battery for a while, the internal battery, that is in charge to save the settings might be dead. I had this in my 601 an Leica told me this. They can fix it of course.
Shepherdphotographer Posted April 18, 2023 Share #11 Â Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) Thank you, but it happens if I turn off the camera and the battery remains into the camera, aslo if it is very charged! jaapv Posted April 18, 2023 Share #12  Posted April 18, 2023 Does it retain and time? In that case the internal battery is OK. Do you save the profile in “user profiles “ in the main camera menu before turning off ?
Shepherdphotographer Posted April 18, 2023 Share #13 Â Posted April 18, 2023 @Jaapv: Battery is ok, I've left camera two days without battery, without problems. It happens of I turn off the camera..... Yes, I've saved the profiles in the main camera menu.......

I don't recall a Profile S. Are you confusing it with S mode (Shutter priority)? If your camera is set to P or A mode, then it will switch to S mode when you mount a (manual aperture) M lens. If this is the case, I suggest you read the manual so your are clear about the difference between P, A, S and M modes (which are not profiles) and User Profiles which (IIRC) are simply numbered. If you already understand all this, I apologise for teaching my grandmother to suck eggs! Hi, I also have SL2-S, and when you press the menu button, on the field where you can chose user profiles, the first icon is “X“ for cancel, the next one is “S“ for default and then you start to see user profiles that you have set up yourself and save them in the User profiles in a menu... I had long time ago SL Typ 601 also and I think there was the “S“ icon for default user profile but I am not sure... It is possible that this was introduced later with newer Firmware updates... I don't know the reason, but it happens....... The same profile "S" of default which I haven't created and I saved profile in the main menu, sure.. as you asked in this topic.......
