Regarding the price: I dearly hope that they stay reasonable (in Leica terms). A price far above 6200 Euro would not be a very clever move. However, with the latest price changes in the M-Line or the increases on the Q2, I expect the worst. Which for me would clearly mean, if the same happens in the SL-Line, that I will use the Q2 and the SL2s to its death and otherwise skip Leica for future investments. I am repeating myself, but with the M11 they have finally entered crazy-land in my opinion and my price-value understanding (which is of course, using Leica, already far off the average and sane person  ) 

 

 

I agree with your logic that the flippy screen design needs to be robust Daniel. Yes, the Q3 will not be as svelte as the Q2. But for me that flippy screen will make many photos better composed and accurately focused so the tradeoff is a positive one. I'll miss my Q2, it's been a fine camera. I'll keep it for awhile though to guard against Q3 bugs. Yes, I'm looking at the M11 menagerie (ongoing), 35mm FLE II aperture blades (now fixed) and the 50mm Summilux Asph II is now getting some bad QC reports on squeaking focus over at FM.

I honestly don't think a 28mm and 40/50mm Q would be released together, that would be a commercial suicide. Same story as the monochrom. There's a commercial reason why it's usually released one year after the color version, even though all is needed is to strip the bayer layer.

The waiting will soon be over. But it’s funny to read everyone’s expectations for the same product, at the end of the day.

I'm surprised to see the demand for a flip screen. It's not something I have often felt the need for, except for occasional macro or low level flowers. For everything else I use and prefer the EVF. I had the TL2, and was never entirely comfortable with the reliance on the screen.

Are people relying on the EVF for much of their work where an EVF would normally be adequate, or are you just doing more macro/flowers than me?

FTAOD I am not criticising the demand for a flippy screen - just surprised.

It's not just for macro or flowers. Other use cases are:

- Shooting at low / ground level, which applies to architecture, landscape, fashion, astro, street and probably others

- Shooting at high level, eg above your head, maybe uncommon and of limited use, but I happened to do that a couple of times and the fixed screen of the SL2-S was a nightmare

- Shooting "from the hip"

- Video 

Probably some other use case as well. As I said in another post, there's a very good reason why this feature is so popular.

because its a point+shoot...have to be a more versatile lens

say, (super wide @15+normal@50)/2=32.5mm....they went for 28 instead of 35...does not bother me

Considering the price jump from the M10 to the M11, I think we'll be looking at 7000-7500€, which means I'll stick to the Ricohs.

A price has leaked in India at ₹4,25,999. This is roughly equivalent to the pre-tax UK price of the Q2 at £4250 so I suspect is more wishful thinking than fact.

screen itself looks as mentioned above...I think that we will hear flak about the hinge system in the future

don't want to sound like I am crapping on q3 with my 2nd neg post, but...

have a look at LH side and RH side:

because of the t-screen placement 'play+menu' buttons were moved to RH, so naturally one would want to use right hand (thumb or fingers) to operate...then how is the camera held?...with left hand, right?..is there a thumb rest on left?...how about thumb smears on the screen from holding with left hand...just saying

I'm tall, kids are small and I like taking pics without breaking my back. I prefer the EVF over the screen but sometimes it's just not feasible to bend over backwards to take a pic and just easier to flip the screen. I would have prefered a tilty screen, which can be adjusted in portrait orientation as that is something I use far more than the other way around. But you can't cather to everyone's expectations. A flippy screen is better than a fixed screen in my book, so I'll take it.

 

I'm still wondering where that rumored 40mm is coming from. AFAIK Stefan Daniel only said they are thinking about a longer FL but never something more concrete. Does someone know where that came from? Was that all just wishful thinking and forum murmuring?

With tilt display it's a given, difficult to place more buttons without making them tiny. I do think the button layout is just a matter of getting used to. Moreover the left hand fingers should be on the lens! 😂

Finger crossed for the 60mp sensor to have nice colors. So far haven't been convinced, even after downloading all available DNG samples I can find...The rest looks great.
