Had 25% battery, enough to see if it goes on. Continuous AF is really disturbing. Gota see how to turn it off, but it’s nowhere in the menu ?

It should be one of the options on the first quick menu screen.

I found "iAF", which I assume is "intelligent", to be not very good even with a small focus box. I switched to single AF and it was much better.

Viewfinder is very nice.

Very premium quality buttons, dials etc

At 268 pages the user manual calls for a cold flannel on the forehead.......and I thought the SL601 was a steep learning curve. What I want to avoid is one of those: "Oh I didn't know it could do that" moments. My Q3 is somewhere between Inverness and Sussex at the moment. I just hope that Parcelforce 24 hours are as reliable as Royal Mail Special Delivery that Ffordes used to use were. Always received something the next day.

5 "Leica Looks" recipes available in the new Fotos app. Once you connect the camera to the app you can transfer these looks to the camera, which just takes a few seconds.

You can apply these looks in camera much like Fujifilm presets. I guess (but haven't checked) that the jpg is affected and the dng remains as shot.

The app is quite cool as it shows you before/after split images of the look applied and not applied. Nice.

Also, the app is fast to download. 60 full res jpgs in about 40 seconds.

Here's a screen grab of the looks available in the app. I imagine they will make more available over time.

I was wondering ; does the Q2grip fits on the Q3 and has it the same pattern as the Q3?

Thanks in advance,

Klassika.

According to mathphotographer, it fits but there are caveats...  See at 7:42 mark:

Steve at Ffordes did not think the Q2 grips would fit on the Q3, due to slightly thicker camera body (to incorporate the tilting screen). I have enquired with both RRS and Kamerakraft about timescales for a dumb camera grip with a battery door. I changed the Crescenzi half case with built in grip on my M10-R, which does not have a battery door for a Kamerkraft grip with a battery door and it is a substantial improvement in usability. The Leica grip for the Q3 does not have a battery door, which rules it out as far as I am concerned. Murphy's law will always dictate that the perfect opportunity for that amazing shot, will always present itself when you are changing batteries.

Is the EVF in same size as Q2 but higher resolution - or larger?

5.75MP OLED EVF, 3” tilting high-res touchscreen.  Same screen protectors that fit Q2 are compatible with Q3.

Have they fixed that really irritating thing with the wandering focus point? Is it now possible to lock it in the centre?

No-one’s answered this question yet, so I’ll try to find out for myself - but the manual doesn’t seem to be online yet.  Can anyone point me to it?

Here it is, there is even a firmware update 1.1. Does anyone know, what this is about?

Oh the excitement! My Q3 has been loaded on a Parcelforce truck at Crawley and is out for delivery to me.

Leica does not say what the contents of the FW update are or what it does but I have downloaded it ready for the arrival of my Q3. I presume since Leica offer a leather strap at extra cost, it is shipped with the usual plastic strap. I have a bag of these. I will check as I think I have a spare Luigi Crescenzi braided silk strap stored away somewhere, which is a lot nicer than the standard plastic strap. The braided silk is very flexible for carrying a camera with the strap wrapped round one's wrist.

Thank you.  I’ve looked at it and it seems to behave exactly as the Q2 does.  I wonder why, since this is a much requested feature, why Leica won’t implement it?

To my understanding there are the same settings available as before. Its a question of how you set them: Set the "Tough AF" on "Touch AF" and "Tough AF in EVF" you set to "off". Then to my understanding the problem is solved. At any time you can set the AF field into the middle by tapping onto the screen.

Is that your point?

I've just had a proper look at my Q3 shots in Lightroom, and very impressive they are too.

In particular I wanted to look at the 90mm crops which are great. Loads of detail, and super sharp at f1.7 as well.

Lightroom behaves as expected. It presents the image as cropped in camera, and when you hit the Lightroom crop function you see the full frame with the in camera crop shown.

My opinion on the 90mm crop is that it is very useful, works fine in the viewfinder, and is an excellent addition.

Compared to the Fuji x100v (I have one of those as well), I much prefer the Leica implementation showing the frame lines inside the whole frame as you are immediately aware of which crop you are using. The Fuji zooms the viewfinder image and has a tiny zoom label in a corner which it's easy to miss. As a result its not immediately obvious if you have zoomed or not. The Leica version is much clearer for me.

For the crop feature I'd like to see an hybrid between the current framelines solution and a fully zoomed in view. Zoom into the previous crop level (or maybe even two levels up), and show the framelines for the selected crop. E.g. zoom the view into 50mm when cropping for 75mm and show the framelines for 75mm.
