Q3 should provide those resolutions

  • 28mm = 60 MP
  • 35mm = 38 MP
  • 50mm = 19 MP
  • 75mm =   8 MP
  • 90mm =   6 MP

On that basis, it makes no sense for me to sell my CL kit, sell my Q2, and buy a Q3.

Somewhere between 35mm and 50mm the CL is the better option than the Q3, since the costs of the TL 18-56, Sigma 56mm, and TL 55-135 have all been amortized there is no gain.

The only gain is if I need more MP than my Q2, and if I’m prepared to fund the gap, which is likely from a sale price for the Q2 of $3500, and an estimated $7,750 sale price of the Q3 of $4,250.

To me that makes no sense. I will not buy an SL2 or 3 and associated lenses, as they’re all too heavy to make it worthwhile. So I can buy an M11 which I have never used, and 3 lenses, which will be about $25k, or buy into a Fuji system.

In truth I’m better off keeping my CL and lenses, and maybe keeping my Q2, but from a performance and financial perspective any Fuji system camera and lenses might be the second best option.

Despite my personal distaste/dislike/no-use-for for a tilting screen I'm favorably impressed that Leica implemented it since it appears it was a common request for the "next iteration" of the Q.  IOW, they DO pay attention to input.  I wouldn't have in this case but that's why they are in charge of a successful company and I'm not!  😆

I wonder if they'd pay any attention to my input for a Leica Q2 3/4 - with all the Q3 bits except the tilt screen! 🤔

Probably not.  🙄

Wouldn't a Q with 50mm solve your dilemma? 😂

"what's the issue with the screen just remaining in it's position? do you mind the protruding assembly?"

Yes, it just looks, as noted earlier..."hunchback-y"  But TBH, I'm sure a week after getting one it would become a total non issue.  Hey, I'm one of those guys who won't consider selling/trading my M10R for an M11 because the 11 doesn't have a baseplate!  Yeah, I know, it's more convenient to NOT have a baseplate.  But I never let common sense get between me and a decision!;)

Sony A7C which is full frame and weathersealed can do it all.

  • interchangeable lens mount
  • smaller body than Q2
  • include 5 axis sensor stabilisation
  • focal plane mechanical shutter
  • flush swivel screen

Somehow years later Q3 can't any of that

NO ibis/OIS but full-frame, great size and a gorgeous lens...now someone will probably argue about sony menus [which once set properly can be forgotten]

But it's got Sony colours and menus, so the Q2 is better.

But the Q2 is bulky and expensive, so the Fuji is better.

But the Fuji is only APS-C, so the Sony is better.

But.......

I'm glad I have a life......

But wait - I'm still reading this stuff....

I forgot about this one. But the better comparison is the Sony RX1R II with EVF and thiner tilting screen than Q3 !!

In a very tiny body in 2015 !!
