I'll wait for some of the inevitable rave reviews on the mis-information net before deciding whether to proceed with a Q2 trade/Q3 purchase... ;)

You’ll have plenty of time to decide, apparently the initial stock will be somehow limited.

A tilt screen would have some use for me, but... I live in a very hot, dry, windy and therefore dusty nature. Our Algarvian/Alentejana sierra is almost sub-desertical and in the coast Monte Gordo has one of the finest sands in the world so it is always "flying".

People I know having tilt screens (fuji, etc) have problems with the mechanism, always have to keep it free from dusts using air pressure bombs or at least ear pears, cannot use the tilt screen outside on windy conditions (this is most of the days...), so for me it is a no go, even if my old joints  would appreciate that help.

What would make me trade my Q2 for a Q3 right away is not happening: a 1.4 aperture...

Guess my Q2 still has a life ahead with me (I still have my Q been happily used by a family member)

Q3 will be pre-presented this very Saturday at the brand new Parisian Leica Store Village Royal.
Stephan Daniels will be the special guest.
Sadly I won’t be able to attend.

They will lend Q3 for a photo walk around Paris. Just like the previous pre-launch for the Q2

I better get my wallet ready. Ffordes in Beauly, Scotland, where I am at the top of their Q3 wait list, got an M10-R on release day, which headed in my direction.

I would love to know whether the Q3 will have PDAF, and what the resolution of the EVF will be. And I hear that a 90mm crop will be possible.

Q3 should provide those resolutions

  • 28mm = 60 MP
  • 35mm = 38 MP
  • 50mm = 19 MP
  • 75mm =   8 MP
  • 90mm =   6 MP

Is it worth it to bother us with 90mm crop for a mere 6 MP ? Same for 75mm with 8MP.

I always hated to have to press 4x the crop buttons to circle around the different "focal lengths" Please don't add another useless press.

75mm frame lines is already way too small, 90mm will be utterly worthless is the Q3 did not magnify the viewing

Why press any buttons?  Just take the picture, crop it to whatever size later.  It's the same picture whether you elect to display crop frames in the viewfinder or not...unless you save only Jpegs.  If that's the case, then I agree - too many button presses.

Except that if you crop then the exposure is only measured within the cropped region, so the end result will not be the same as if you had not selected a crop.

According to the rumors, it will have PDAF.

But rumors or not, it'd be strange to release a CDAF only Q3 and 6/9 months later the SL3 with PDAF. It'd look like a generation behind in the lineup.
