cuss Posted November 7, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted November 7, 2007 Why not? well... reminding the last firmware release, I'd wait a day or two, waiting to see what goes on... I'd be one of those who'd install any firmware as soon as it is released, but since last time it had some problems, I'll wait, at least, that it appear on the website of my own country!! cuss

cuss Posted November 7, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted November 7, 2007 That's strange - I've never had a problem with any of the firmware releases - hey ho! Nor had I, but do you remember the firmware which was released and updated within one day? can't remember well, was it the 1.091/2 ? Anyway, I'm sure Leica will check it well this time, but, all in all, I still haven't even read any official Leica announcement about this new release. I'd like to know what it actually adds or fixes, wouldn't you? (beside the recognition of the new lenses, that is) (Also I'm at work now, and I haven't my camera with me. I have to wait this night in any cases ) Cuss
guywalder Posted November 7, 2007 Share #12 Posted November 7, 2007 the notes in the german instructions for updating the FW say the changes are: - 6bit codes for Summarit 35, 50, 75, 90 added - time frame between pre-flash and main-flash shortened in M-TTL mode with SF 24D and SCA compatible flashs - function of the menu wheel improved - battery life display accuracy improved - text in french version changed its on the Leica site along with FW 1.110, so I assume its official.... (so no comment on high iso noise!)

(so no comment on high iso noise!) Yes, it finally appeared in my own language too (Italian)! Now it is official thank you in any case. On the US site, also there is the list of updates (in english of course) cuss
Tim B Posted November 7, 2007 Share #14 Posted November 7, 2007 I had an email from Leica directing me to the download webpage, so it is certainly official. But ... a query. All other firmware for other makes of camera I have downloaded explicitly state that the latest version includes all previous updates, so if you skip a few you can catch up by simply installing the latest one. I would presume that this is the case with the M8 firmware, but I cannot find an explicit statement to this effect. Of course I could have overlooked it, but knowing that Leica do occasionally behave in a rather idiosyncratic way can anyone confirm that this is the case? I never bothered with 1.107 - do I need to, before installing the latest one? Thanks, Tim
bradhusick Posted November 7, 2007 Share #15 Posted November 7, 2007 What exactly does this mean (from their email): "Battery capacity display improved"
Venkman Posted November 7, 2007 Share #16 Posted November 7, 2007 It's not three bars for 150+ exposures and then from 3 to 1 bar in another 5 shots. Think of more reliable info.

Keep a copy of the previous firmware around -- if for some reason you don't like the way the new firmware works, you can always re-install the older copy (although I don't see any problems with 1.11 myself). scott
bradhusick Posted November 7, 2007 Share #18 Posted November 7, 2007 I have shot side by side comparisons of firmware 1.10 and 1.11 at ISO 1250 and 2500 and I can tell no difference whatsoever in the images. Those hoping for improved noise handling (and who among us does not?) should not expect changes in this area. Leica made no claims here, so don't be surprised or disappointed. I, for one, am disappointed that they did not include SDHC card support in this release.
