M11 Date & Time Adjustment (something weird or am I doing it wrong?)

Hi All-

I have a question on Date & Time setting on M11. I previously had a M10P. It seems like the date and time setting never persists. It just stops updating when the camera is off. It feels to me like I'm doing something wrong or something is broken. I don't expect to pay the M11 price tag just to have to keep manually adjusting my date & time before every session. I also noticed if I use a cable and plug in the camera to my phone, it will synch the time. Does this mean that I have to plug in first thing daily - every day? Something about this just feels off.

Can anyone help? I have just updated to the newest 1.6.1 firmware. M11 with less than a few hundred shots.

I would apprecite ANY help at all on this.

An example work flow is like this:

- camera and batteries are stored separately

- prior to using cam, or going on trip, i charge the batteries

- i arrive at destination and begin taking photos

- export photos via wifi+FOTOs app and notice all of my photos are time stamped to the last time i set manually set the date and time

- i now manually change date and time on the photos

- i manually set date and time on M11

- X amount of time passes and this process starts again all over

I suspect the internal battery is not getting charged up because you are removing the main battery from the camera to charge that. I would simply leave the camera with the main battery in it and not worry. That way the internal battery will be recharged and will maintain the clock time date function.

I leave the battery in the camera even when I’m not planning to use it for weeks. No problem with date/time stamp. I suspect the internal battery is constantly being topped up, although it’s odd that yours loses the correct setting so quickly.

User manual page 12, "...backup battery retains the date and time for some weeks".

I also separate the camera and the battery for storage, if I didn't use it for more than two weeks, yes it loses the current date and time.
so I use the camera to take photos every weekend.

Thanks everyone.

I picked up the habit of storing electronic devices without the battery inserted many years ago. I guess I shouldn't do that now.

I guess a follow up question is, if its much longer than a few weeks in between using the cam (like months) should I just make it a habit of plugging the cam into my phone to synch the date/time before use?

I do have similar problem with date and time right after unboxing a brand new M11.  I found the problem when started setting up camera for first use.  Date and Time not able to save and kept going back to default as 9 Mar 2021.  Also I notice all the photos I took are also shown the same date and time as default 9 Mar 2021 and time.  Another word, Date and Time can not be change via set up and it is not changing after next photo shot either.

Hope to hearing from anyone who has a fix for it or any suggestions would be helpful

Cheers,

Thomas

Sounds like something is wrong and it might be worth checking with a dealer. One thought though, the default setting is to set the time/date when paired with a smartphone via FOTOS. Does that work? If so, then maybe change the setting back to manual and see if it’s fixed the problem.

Had my new M11 for 10 days and I am experiencing the same problem. The camera's date and time keeps reverting to Jan 1st 2016. I thought the photos were just evaporating into thin air until I realised that Lightroom thinks they were taken years ago.

Just a thought: are you removing the battery when the camera is not in use?  It may be that the internal battery simply hasn't had the time to charge up.  ( see posts above)

Just purchased the M11M and like others have noted, the date and time will not set correctly. Mine comes up as. 2 Mar 2016. The dealer suggested I fully charged battery and put it in the camera body, leaving the camera, turned off for 24 hours.

That did not work. Nor has resetting the camera.

I’ve written back to them to see what their necks suggestion might be. Has anyone had any luck resolving this issue?

Many thanks!

Susan

I recently bought a brand new M11-P. Same Problem. With every battery removal / change, the date and time resets to Jan 1st 2016.

Leica customer care proposed an exchange of the camera (DOA, Defect On Arrival), assuming a defective internal buffer battery. Maybe a known problem?

Muntanella62,   When I had the M11-M, it did the same thing with the clock.  It was like the movies:  "Ground Hog Day" or "Back to the Future" with the clock.  Leica exchanged the camera.  I suggest you take Leica Customer Care up on the offer to exchange your camera.    r/ Mark

Has anyone identified a solution for the time issue?

Previously, I did not encounter this problem, but it seems to have started occurring following one of the recent firmware updates. The camera does not freeze but the time fails to update automatically, requiring me to adjust it manually every time I use the camera.
