Vonnie Posted February 26, 2023 Share #1 Â Posted February 26, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone After reading some of the comments I'm a little concerned. Â My Leica M11 + Cron 50 f2 arrive within the next couple of days. Â According to the guys in the store the Cron is ex display (not sure if this may have any bearing)and I have 2 brand new Sandisk Cards UHS I & II. In the past whenever I've bought a new camera SLR/DSLR or mirrorless I've popped a lens on, inserted a film/card and gone off out to take photos. I'm starting to understand that the Leica M11 can be a bit more 'delicate'?! Â In your opinion is it better to use a particular SD card? I read somewhere that Leica was using older hardware which wasn't as compatible with the newer UHS II cards, maybe that's been resolved with the firmware updates? Â Is there anything else I should or shouldn't be doing, Â to avoid freezes/problems, before I attached the lens and head off out to take some shots? I know I'll just want to rush off without reading any instructions the moment I get my hands on it so a Do or Don't list, Â prior to the arrival, would be really appreciated. rustyrus Posted February 26, 2023 Share #2  Posted February 26, 2023 Honestly I think most of it is over blown....Every new piece of tech that comes out has issues. Update firmware and go shoot.  Stay off the forums until you need to post pictures or whatever else you want to do. You will always find the answer you are looking for on the internet be it good or bad. You just spent 9k on a camera, go enjoy the hell out of it!
Vonnie Posted February 26, 2023 Author Share #3 Â Posted February 26, 2023 Sound advice! Thank you Rustyrus. I'll carry on doing what I've always done.
jakontil Posted February 26, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted February 26, 2023 shouldn't worry too much, when it arrives, check if it is on the latest firmware, since imho probably the best firmware since m11 released, format the sdcard, whichever you are going to use in the camera menu, go out and shoot... hopefully it's problem free, if not, an issue you can resolve easily
Qlan Posted February 26, 2023 Share #5  Posted February 26, 2023 Don't worry about potential issues before you get them  (and then, come back and ask for help)! Congrats on the M11!
Kwesi Posted February 26, 2023 Share #6  Posted February 26, 2023 Finally! not a real lot to do. As I had mentioned before I’ve had mine for over a year now with no issues. Don’t see why your experience should be any different. Couple of things.  I’ve used both cards you have with no issues. First the UHS II  and then the UHS I when I discovered there was no performance difference writing to the camera and it’s 100 dollars cheaper. Make sure to download Fotos app. It’s great with the M11 running the latest firmware. You get wireless firmware updates, pretty much instant connection via Wi-Fi, and gps. It’s also great for when you are out in a cafe and want to see what you’ve shot through your phone or iPad.
Herr Barnack Posted February 26, 2023 Share #7  Posted February 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) @Vonnie Congratulations on your soon to be arriving M11! From what I can discern, freeze-ups seem to be related to using live view and user profiles. I have decided to wait for the M11-P to arrive. When it does and I finally get my copy, I will avoid using live view and user profiles. Some SD cards seem to cause the M11 to choke, too. From what I can tell, the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC Memory Card or the SanDisk 256GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC Memory Card both seem to be safe choices for the M11. When your M11 arrives, check to make sure firmware 1.6.0.0 is installed. This is the latest, greatest firmware from Leica, but it has been said that another firmware upgrade is currently being created. If you Google it, you will find the full M11 instruction manual online, in case it comes with the much smaller quick start instructions. Keep us posted on your experience with your new M11!

I'm not too bothered about creating a user profile but I would occasionally like to use the live view. I'll make sure the firmware is up to date, hopefully most of the teething problems have been resolved with the latest update. Fingers crossed! I can't wait until it arrives and have no doubt I'll fall in love with it! I'll let you know how I get on.
Stef63 Posted February 27, 2023 Share #9  Posted February 27, 2023 I have my M11 now for almost 14 months.  No issues at all.  I have user profiles and use LV frequently with the Visoflex 2.  In contrast with previous digital M series the M11 behaves flawlessly.  I might be lucky, but I should not worry to much. I do not use SD cards however, only internal memory.  I have other Leica digital camera’s where I need to use SD cards.  All in all I find the M11 internal memory more convenient. Good luck with your new M.
Cattoo Posted February 28, 2023 Share #10 Â Posted February 28, 2023 I've had mine for a month. Â No issues. Â I use profiles too. Â I must admit that I was a bit nervous after reading through all the alarming reports about M11 frees-ups and overexposures, but mine's worked without any problems. Â The image quality is fantastic. Â Coming from the M10 I couldn't be happier. Â It's a keeper for sure. Â Â
qwertyy Posted February 28, 2023 Share #11  Posted February 28, 2023 New M11 and first time Leica owner here as well. Welcome to the club! Experienced 2-3 camera freeze moments in the past 1 month that I've had the camera. I understand it may sound scary but things are back to normal. Like one of the guys, my freeze experiences revolve around the live view function or when you're trying to playback something right away after using LV to photograph. The above can be solved by restarting the camera and popping in/out the battery. One other time I had this issue where the focus aid would not zoom in even after I did the battery thing. Had to factory reset the camera and everything seems ok for now. My advice is to handle the menu at a slower pace. Camera freezes are normal since these are consumer tech products. I understand how it can feel frustrating given the high price tag on these cameras. As long as there is warranty you are good. I am using the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC

Hmmm...a slower pace sounds perfect.  One of the reasons I'm drawn to the Leica is because I know it will force me to slow down and think more about how I want to shoot.

But still, I recognize that many people don't have issues at all, which is kind of baffling to be honest. So just luck of the draw I guess. Henners Posted March 1, 2023 Share #19 Â Posted March 1, 2023 Congrats on the M11, such an awesome camera. Like others have said, just stick an SD card in it. If you have time and want to be slightly cautious then format it in a PC/Mac first using the special SD card formatter software that's free online. Either way, the worst that will happen is it might lock up at some point while shooting and you'll have to pull the battery. Or your burst speed might not be that fast but you might not even really notice. Have fun!

I once came across M11 with a failed EVF visoflex 2 when paired, just strange.. and prior to that my friend’s wont go liveview when activated, just a hint of issues u might want to check on i m counting i have had 4 freezes since i got my m11 back in june, 3 prior to fw 1.6 that’s when i wasnt told to disable standby mode, and the last one was last sunday, after transferring my photos to my macbook, slot back the card and it freezes the last issue was coming so unexpectedly so i had no idea what probably caused it, but at the moment i still run no profile users, but i enabled standby mode to 30min
